Warehouse Management Processes in
Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2012
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 provides a number of warehouse management processes that give you
the flexibility and control to help you optimize your warehouse according to your individual
requirements. By using warehouse management processes in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, you can
obtain better operating practices and will also allow inventory, equipment, labor, and space to be
used more effectively.
With Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, you get an all-in-one solution that gives you real-time
connectivity across your business. Warehouse Management integrates with other functional areas of
Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 to help you optimize your business.
OPTIMIZE YOUR WAREHOUSE LAYOUT
Warehouse Management in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 gives you the flexibility to define
your warehouse layout according to your changing needs, so that you can achieve
increased warehouse efficiency. You can establish high- and low-priority storage areas
within store zones for improved placement of goods. Divide your warehouse into zones to
accommodate different storage needs such as temperature requirements or the rate of
turnover of various items. You can specify warehouse locations on six levels: site,
warehouse, aisle, rack, shelf, and bin. You can define each location based on parameters
such as space and pallet type. In addition, you can either control how items are stored
based on predefined location rules, or have the flexibility to randomly manage item
storage. In Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, you have the ability to deactivate separately for
physical input or output, or to deactivate both for one or more physical locations of the
warehouse.
INCREASE YOUR WAREHOUSE EFFICIENCY AND ACCURACY
Inventory locations
Warehouse Management in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 helps you allocate
warehouse space efficiently by automatically identifying storage locations for items,
based on the characteristics of items and warehouse zones.
All warehouse activities are recorded, so you can recreate a complete history of
actions and item identifiers by using an audit trail.
Bar-coding and/or RFID can be used to increase the speed and accuracy of picking
and putting away items.
Warehouse Management in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 also helps you determine
Inbound process
the most logical sequence of picking locations in order to optimize your picking
routes and speed up order fulfillment to your customers.
Picking routes are allocated by the system based on parameters such as picking areas,
item/location sort codes, time, and volume.
Several orders can be included in one route to minimize waste between picking tasks.
This will also optimize pallet loads and further increase warehouse efficiency.
You can achieve faster picking and packing with good visibility into possible picking
locations, including full pallet picking from bulk areas being consolidated with guided
picking routes and following delivering of items to shipment staging.
Forklift control is supported in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 with policies such as
maximum lifting height.
As part of the shipment staging process, tracking of the loading can be recorded to
ensure full outbound process accuracy to the end.
Advanced shipping notices (ASN) help you to send information to the receiver to let
them know what they are going to receive in advance.
You can improve overall efficiency with transfers, using lead time with calendar
functionality for the outbound and inbound processes when moving items between
warehouses, including tracking of physical goods in transit.
INCREASE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
Outbound process
Register goods as they arrive at the warehouse, so that they are visible throughout the
system before they have been placed in inventory. You can reserve items for customers,
including items from a specific batch, while entering a sales order. This reservation is
recognized by all functions in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, such as inventory counts and
planning of production, to help customers fulfill their demands.
GET A COMPLETE OVERVIEW OF YOUR INVENTORY
In order to track items internally and throughout the supply chain, you can automatically
have inventory stamped with an inventory dimension number linked to shipments and
deliveries.
Determine the exact storage location of a specific item in your warehouse by using
storage dimensions, which can include information regarding site, warehouse, location,
and pallet ID.
For improved traceability, you can use tracking dimensions like batch and/or serial
numbers, all providing a clear view of items in your warehouse along with tracking RFID
tags. For each item, you can assign GTIN codes and bar codes as needed, allowing for full
tractability of items in your supply chain.
