2014-2015 Travel Team Audition
Schedule, Information and Contract
Listed below is the information for the 2014-2015 competition season. Please read all of the information and
make notes of any questions. We will have a competition tryout meeting on August 7, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. to
answer all questions. Audition forms and deposits must be turned in by August 21, 2014. Tryouts will be August
23. (Ages 8 and under 9am-10am, ages 9-11 10am-11:20am, ages 12 and up 11:30-2:30) *Keep in mind your child
may be asked to stay for the next age group.
What is Needed to Audition for Dolce Travel Competition Teams?
Parents must attend the competition tryout meeting on August 7, 2014.
 All dancers must turn in their audition form by August 21, 2014 along with a signed contract, both parent
and student code of ethics, all release forms, and a $300 deposit per dancer or $500 per family.
 All dancers are required to wear black and have their hair pulled back in a ponytail for auditions.
 All students auditioning must be current on their account NO EXCEPTIONS.
 Arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled time to stretch and be ready to go when you are called in.
 A strong work ethic, willingness to work hard, good attitude and team spirit are a must for trying out.
Placement for all teams, duets and trios will be made by the audition panel. Please do not question the
placement of your dancer as the teachers have your child’s best interests in mind when placing them. Placement
is based on many factors and the teaching panel’s decisions are final.
We may be choosing one alternate per team to allow us the flexibility to make changes if someone is unable to
fulfill their agreement.
Results will be emailed out no later than August 26th.
Do not call for results or to discuss results with the teachers and staff. A lot of time and thought is put into
team selection and all dancers will be placed fairly.
Things to Consider Before Auditioning
Dolce Travel Competition Teams require a strong commitment, hard work, dedication, a passion for dance and a
drive for self- improvement. Being part of Dolce’s nationally ranked and award winning travel competition teams
is an experience your child won’t forget and the friendships they develop are priceless.
Dolce Competition Dancers cannot compete with any other competitive dance studios and many not take
technique classes or private lessons anywhere else without Kendra’s approval. We want our dancers all
performing technique as taught at Dolce; other teachers and studios may have a different way of prepping,
holding their hands, etc., which causes confusion for the dancers. This does not include master classes,
intensives or conventions.
Solos and Duet/Trios are only offered to dancers competing on Dolce Travel or Performing Competition Teams.
Outside choreography is allowed but all songs must be approved by Kendra prior to choreography to make sure
they are not already being used. A Dolce teacher must run any solo, duet or trio if outside choreography is used.
The number of teams a dancer makes will be determined by the teaching staff. The minimum requirement is two
teams. That does not mean if you request four teams that you will be put on four teams. Please make sure you
write on your competition tryout form the maximum amount of teams you would like your child to be considered
for.
Dolce will be having a Studio Production number. Every dancer 8 years old or older will be required to participate.
Competition dancers are required to be placed on a minimum of two teams. If your child wishes to compete two
solos, they must be on a minimum of three teams. We, at Dolce, encourage a team environment; therefore your
team commitment must be more than your solo commitment.
We will be having competition practices for the teens, seniors, and possibly the juniors, every other Saturday for
one hour.
What to Expect After Making the Dolce Dance Competition Teams
You will be part of an exciting and awesome group of dancers, directed by Kendra Primavera and taught by the
leading teachers in the industry. Being a part of Dolce Travel Competition Teams is a self-esteem building,
energetic and priceless learning experience. You will be amazed by how much your child will accomplish and
learn in this program.




All Travel Competition Team students will be required to take two technique, one ballet and one
stretch/conditioning class per week in addition to their team classes. If you are on a lyrical team, you
must also take a lyrical technique class; same will apply for hip hop.
All comp classes and extra practices are MANDATORY.
All dancers must arrive 10 minutes before class and be ready to go when the class starts. Enter the class
with a positive attitude, ready to work hard and aspire to inspire your teammates.
Dancers are allowed two unexcused absences per team during the season. Unexcused absences do not
include times your child is sick, school related activities, or if pre-approval by your teacher is obtained.







There will be no excused absences the two weeks prior to a competition. All technique classes can be
made up on another day if missed but must be made up within the same month. If a student misses too
often, an alternate will be asked to step in until your child can practice regularly.
We will compete in five mandatory dance competitions (2-3 out of town), as a full studio; plus National
Finals in June or July. Recital will be in July. Dancers who wish to compete at additional competitions are
welcome to do so.
You must attend all scheduled competitions.
All tuition and comp fees must be paid in the month they are due.
Registration will be available at the studio starting August 27th. You must be registered by September 2,
2014.
Annual registration fee of $30 or $50 per family is required at registration.
Tuition is due on the 1st of every month. Please refer to our Tuition Policy section.
Choreography days are mandatory!! Above excused absences cannot be used on choreography days.
These days are usually the only day that an outside choreographer can come into town. If you can’t
make it to these practices, you will be removed from the team.
Detailed Information for Travel Competition Teams


Monthly Tuition. Tuition is due on the 1st of every month. If fees or tuition have not been paid by the
5th of the month you will be charged a $15.00 late fee. If balances have not been paid by the 10th, a
second $15.00 late fee will be applied to your account. If at any time your account becomes 30 days past
due, you will be removed from all classes and teams until your account is up to date. Late fees will also
be applied to all costume or entry fee balances that are five days past due. Every competition student’s
parent will be required to have a credit card on file. If you become over 60 days past due on anything,
your card will automatically be charged for the amount due and any late fees that you were assessed.

returned check fee and checks will no longer be accepted.

Family Discount. Families with more than one dancer will automatically be given a 10% discount on
tuition.

Unlimited Classes/Tuition. Dolce is one of the few studios that include competition classes as a class
that counts toward Unlimited Tuition. Please consider this when you sign up for teams. After enrolling in
your required classes, you are already halfway to Unlimited Tuition.
Tuition prices are for the month and will not be prorated for missed classes or vacations. If you are
planning a vacation or you will be missing a class for extracurricular activities, it is the parent’s
responsibility to put in writing the days you will be missing and turn it in to the front office at least one
week in advance. The only exception to this is sudden illness or injury. Please do not leave a verbal
message as everyone is busy and the information may not get to the people who need it.
Competition dancers will pay full tuition for the full competition season beginning at registration in
September 2014 through July 31, 2015. During the month of August 2015, they will be required to take a
minimum of 2 classes to keep up with their technique if they plan to audition for the next season.

Attendance. It is extremely important to the development of your dancer to attend all required
technique classes. If you are not able to commit to the training, please consider a local team only and
not travel teams. All of the dancers on each team deserve the best and if you do not train you will let
yourself and your team down. Any dancer who is not attending their required classes will not be able to
do a solo, duet, trio or private lessons and an alternate will step in their groups until their attendance
improves. If your dancer is replaced on a team for a competition, due to their attendance, you will not be
refunded the entry fees.
We can only help your child grow as a dancer if they are attending technique classes. Their future dance
development depends on your commitment to yourself. We are 100% committed to helping every
dancer achieve their personal goals.

Dance Clothing. Students are not allowed to come to class in baggy shirts and gym shorts! Please wear
form fitting clothing as it helps the teachers see what needs to be corrected. During choreography all
dancers will be required to wear black. When choreography is complete, please follow the classroom
dress requirements. Jazz shoes are required for all technique classes and hair should be in a ponytail or a
bun.

Ballet Technique Classes. All competitive dancers are required to take a minimum of one ballet class per
week with Shirley/ Terra. This is a MANDATORY class. The only exception to not taking ballet is if you
are competing only in Tap or Hip Hop. Taking Ballet privates with Shirley or Terra CAN NOT take the place
of the required Ballet class.
Shirley Winters Ballet is a separate program from Dolce. All ballet classes will be paid directly to Shirley.
Shirley has agreed to give a discounted rate to Dolce competition dancers for their required one hour per
week class. She will charge $30 per month for the Dolce ballet class. Any additional classes will be at the
regular rate. There will be two separate Dolce ballet classes. Dancers ages 11 and under will now be
training with Terra, while dancers ages 12 and older will be training with Shirley.
Costumes and Team Sweats

Our first costume deposit will be due on September 2, 2014. The first costume deposit is $150 per team,
solo, duet and trio. We will charge your account $50 per costume on October 15 and again on November
15. The costume balances will be due upon completion of each costume. Your $300 tryout deposit will
be credited to your account in January 2015. All costume deposits are non-refundable. Our seamstress
requires half of the estimated balance up front to begin our costumes. If you have not paid your deposits
on time your costume will not be made. Once our competition practices begin and if your child drops out
of a routine, any money deposited toward a costume will not be refunded and you will be responsible for
the full price of the costume.

Costumes for competition teams usually run between $250 to $285 for each group costume and $275 to
$450 for solos and duet/trio costumes (this cost includes rhinestones). If you have a limit to what you
want to spend on a solo or duet/trio costume, please let your teacher know. Please keep in mind that
rhinestones are a huge portion of the cost. If you are interested in purchasing a used costume for a solo
or duet/trio please note this on your tryout form.

We will be keeping the same Dolce Team Jackets this year. If you are new to travel comp you will be
required to purchase one. A $100 deposit will be due September 2nd and the balance will be due when
the jackets arrive. We keep our team wear for two to three years. Please consider ordering this apparel
a little big to fully cover your costume and allow for growth. All Dolce competitive dancers are required
to wear Dolce team jackets at all competitions or events that we attend as a team.

If you are unable to complete the season for any reason, you agree that all costumes will remain with the
studio until after National Finals. The costumes will be available for you to pick up one week after our
return from Nationals. If you choose not to return your costume, you will be charged the full
replacement cost of having another made so a dancer can fill in for the missing dancer.

All group costumes must be kept in house for one year. Solo and duet/trio costumes can be sold but
group costumes may not be sold for one year, unless it is approved with Kendra.
Competitions
Entry Fees. All entry fees will be due 8 weeks prior to the competition date. Everyone will receive a competition
book outlining when, where and how much each competition will be. They will be posted on your accounts as
soon as the competition dates are decided. Our estimated studio entry fees will be around $16,000 for each
competition. Because of this, we will not be able to submit entries until everyone has paid. If your entry fees are
not paid by the deadline, you will be charged a $15.00 late fee per routine that you have caused to be entered
late. We will also consider an alternate for that competition.
Competition Winnings Breakdown. If you are on a team, solo or duet/trio and you win money at a competition,
money won will be credited to your account as it comes in. Most competitions pay winnings within 4 to 6 weeks.
As Dolce will be taxed on these winnings, we will deduct a percentage of these winnings to cover the taxes
charged.
Optional Competitions. If you choose to attend any competitions in addition to our scheduled competitions,
Dolce will be happy to enter them for you. Your account must be current and your entry fees must be paid 8
weeks in advance. You are responsible for letting us know far enough in advance to get your entries in.
Conventions and Intensives. We encourage our dancers to take advantage of these training opportunities. We
are also looking to a few really great conventions/competitions that we feel would be great for our dancers.
Parental Contact. Parents are NOT ALLOWED to contact a competition directly for any reason. We will be happy
to address any questions and/or concerns on your behalf with the competition director.
Teacher Travel Fees and Prop Transportation Charge. We will charge a fee per competition this season. All costs
will be added and divided evenly between dancers. Travel fees will be due 1 week after the regional
competitions, and 3 weeks prior to nationals.
Arriving on Time. All dancers are to arrive at the competition an hour and half before their scheduled
performance time. If they do not and cause the team to wait on them, they will be benched for the next
competition.
Competition Etiquette. Every competition dancer must attend their awards ceremonies. Dancers need to be
respectful, gracious, and cheer for all Dolce teams. If at any time a dancer is disrespectful or rude to another
studio or dancer, they will be benched for the next competition and could be removed from Dolce teams.
Prop Construction Fee. If a teacher feels it is essential to a dance, a prop will be reused, refurbished or
constructed for the dance. This cost is split evenly amongst all Dolce dancers. Prop(s) are then kept at the studio
for future use.
Choreography
Fees. All teams choreographed by Dolce teachers will not be charged a choreography fee. If we bring in outside
choreographers for some of our teams, solos and/or duet/trios a choreography fee will be charged. If you are
interested in having an outside choreographer choreograph a dance for your child please let Kendra know
immediately as we will need to approve all outside choreography and music. You will be responsible for paying
all choreography fees of solos, duets and trios along with weekly private lesson fees. If your child drops out of
the season or is unable to attend a competition you will be charged a $100 choreography fee per routine that
needs to be changed. You will also be responsible for the replacement dancer’s entry fees and loaning them your
costume. This fee is due to the extra hours the choreographer has to put in re-choreographing the routine.
Outside Choreography Fees. Rates vary but are usually $100 per dancer for a large group and $150 per dancer
for small groups.
Solo Costs.
 Choreography cost is $300 which includes ½ hour private choreography until the dance has been
completed or four classes, whichever comes first.
 Weekly private lessons – 30 minutes - $30.00 or $60.00 for an hour.
 Entry fees for solos are between $85 and $115 for each competition.
 Solo costumes run between $275 and $450. We have access to previously used costumes which will
reduce your cost to about half of the original purchase price.
If you choose to do a solo, but later decide to scratch it, you will still be responsible to pay your teacher their
weekly private lesson fee. Each teacher takes on a limited number of solos, duets and trios each season and they
planned for a slot for this dancer or dancers. The private may be turned into a technique private instead, if the
parent wishes.
Duets and Trios.
 Choreography cost is $350 which includes ½ hour private choreography until the dance has been
completed or four classes, whichever comes first.
 Weekly private lessons – 30 minutes - $36.00 If you are unable to make a scheduled duet/trio time and
do not notify your teacher you will still be required to pay your portion of the private lesson.
 Entry fees for duets/trios are between $90 and $115 for each competition (split between partners).
 Duet/Trio costumes run between $275 and $350 each. We have access to previously used costumes
which will reduce your cost to about half of the original purchase price.
Extra Practices. Dolce will have choreography weekends the month of September. Dolce may schedule extra
practices during Thanksgiving and Christmas break in preparation for the beginning of the season. We appreciate
everyone’s effort to attend any extra practices and there will be no extra fees for extra practices.
Closed Competition Practices. We will be closing all competition choreography team practices for the 2014/2015
season. After choreography is complete, it will be at the teacher’s discretion when each competition class is
open for viewing.
General Information
Recital. Recital is MANDATORY for all competition dancers. This is a special time for family and friends to come
and see what you have worked so hard to achieve. It makes it difficult to see how great a dance is if people are
missing. A dancer’s absence is not fair to the rest of the team. New this season- I will be requiring a $100.00
recital deposit due Feb 1st. This is to ensure the attendance of the dancers at recital. If your child attends, the
$100.00 will be credited back to your account the day after recital.
Recital Tickets 5 @
$12.00/each = $60.00
Mandatory purchase of five tickets for all competition families.
Fundraising. We will be offering some easy fundraising options that will help offset the cost of competition.
Please attend the Dolce Parent Club meetings to receive information on these opportunities. Working at The
Save Mart Center has had a huge impact on some of our participating families, earning up to $800 in a single
month!
Zero Tolerance Policy. If you or your child is disrespectful or disruptive toward a Dolce teacher, staff member,
parent or other student, whether it is in the studio or at a competition, they will be asked to leave. We want the
parents, teachers, students and staff to be proud to be a part of the wonderful program we offer at Dolce. We
are very proud of Dolce and everything and everyone it represents.
All attached forms must be signed and returned no later Aug. 21, 2014
