Minnesota State University Moorhead, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Moorhead MN



Introduction
This section should:
o State the question you are answering. This may simply be a statement of the
comparison you will make in the conclusions.
o Give relevant background, and cite at least one source. This may not be a
website. This should be a book or journal article.
o Review the literature. Write a paragraph that references at least two acceptable
sources in Physical Review journal format:
Example text:
Some research groups have reported thermocouples capable of generating
thermoelectric emfs in the 10 volt range [1].
[1] A. Shastri, Journal of Irreproducible Results, 120, 431 (2013). This is for
a journal: Author name, Journal title, Volume, Page number (Year).
Experimental methods
Your goal is to make clear how the hair diameter was determined.
o Include a schematic diagram of the experiment.
o Text should include enough detail that your experiment could be replicated.
Results
You goal here is to make clear what the results are:
o Include a relevant graph, following good graphing practices, or a table of
numbers, depending on which better suits your purpose. Both should have error
bars.
o Show uncertainties reported to correct number of significant figures.


Conclusions
Discuss the variation of the hair diameter compared to the uncertainty of the diameter.
Discuss whether the variation is significant, and propose a model that explains your
results.



References
You need 3 references (website URLs not allowed) in AIP format
