JOB DESCRIPTION
Role: Early years project assistant.
When: 6 hours per day, one day per week. Thursdays, term time only.
72 hours over a 12 week placement.
Hourly pay: £4.17 for 16 to 17 year olds & £5.13 for 18 year olds.
Reports to: New Audiences Apprentice & Education Development Officer.
Deadline: 5 PM on Friday 31st October
WHAT WE WANT YOU TO DO:
GO Baby is Gallery Oldham’s early years fun creative Thursday morning
session helping babies and their carers to explore textures, colours,
noises and objects linked to our current exhibitions and displays.
Your role will be supporting our four different early year’s practitioners to
deliver creative sessions to babies (0-2’s) and their carers.
You will also be asked to help with any admin work linked to the project.












Work with the early years practitioners to organise the session.
Assist with the set up and take down of the sessions.
Ensure a safe and welcoming environment each week.
Ensure new parents fill in a details form.
Sign parents into the sessions.
Make sure both parents and babies are getting the most out of the
sessions.
When appropriate take photos of the sessions for potential use on
the website or in the brochure.
Help the early years practitioner during the session.
Be aware of the health and safety regulations.
Inputting and monitoring data.
Checking all equipment is safe and in good order.
Purchasing replacement equipment (if necessary).
And any other duties related to the education team.

 Work well with the public.
 Some experience of working with children.
 Able to work in a team.
 Not afraid to ask for help when it’s needed.
 Willing to have a DBS check.
Desirable qualities:
 Interested in a future career in early years, museum/gallery
education
 Not currently in education, employment or training.
WHAT WE’LL DO FOR YOU:
 Paid role in a gallery and museum for 12 weeks.
 Access to a wide range of specialisms and knowledge.
 First-hand experience of working with babies and carers.
 Opportunity to work with 4 experienced early years practitioners.
 Responsibility of assisting with a key part of our family offer.
 Current DBS check.
WHERE YOU WILL BE BASED:
You will be based at Gallery Oldham, whilst working you’ll have access to
everything you need to complete the work.
Tea and Coffee provided (cakes and biscuits most of the time too!)
You will have to pay for your own travel and food.
We have access to an on-site café http://www.galleryoldham.org.uk/information/refreshments.htm
There is also access to a microwave, kettle and fridge.
