JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Return to Learn - Maths & Numeracy Tutor (0.5) Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week. Hillcroft courses run seven days a week throughout the year, so flexibility to work at weekends and in some school holiday periods is required. Provision includes intensive short courses (both mid-week and weekends). Salary/Grade: Tutors’ Salary scale: £20461 x 10 increments to £32,467 pro rata. Bar at point 5 currently £25,079 for tutors who do not possess a recognised teaching qualification. Accountable to: Learning Manager, within the Directorate of Curriculum and Quality. Manages: No line management responsibility; however, as course-lead, the tutor has a co-ordinating role working with the Learning Manager, other tutors and learning support staff for that particular course. Job Purpose To teach and support Maths, Numeracy and Study Skills on a range of Return to Learn programmes, from Entry 2 to Level 2. To act as a personal tutor for learners on and between programmes. To work collaboratively as a member of the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Team. Outline Job Description 1. To encourage back into Maths & Numeracy learning women who have experienced barriers to their progress, as well as low confidence and difficulty with maths. 2. To contribute to the design and planning of specific courses, organising differentiated activities for each learner according to their level and need. 3. To actively contribute to e-resources such as the VLE, e-ILPs and other e-learning approaches. 4. To gather and use personal information and initial and diagnostic assessment results to set targets and promote personalised, learner-centred approaches. 5. To embed opportunities for the development of English, Maths, ICT and Study Skills into all programmes. 6. To guide learners to achieve successful outcomes through regular individual tutorials and written feedback on improvements they can realistically make. 7. To set, mark and moderate learners’ work as required, in line with college procedures and agreed timescales. 8. To deliver individual learning support where applicable. To evaluate teaching and learning to inform future planning and to improve quality, ensuring learner involvement in the process. 10. To maintain course files and complete student records online or on paper in line with college guidelines (i.e. registers, assessment records, individual learning plans, course folders, learner records). 11. To attend course team and other staff meetings as required for the role. 12. To adhere to the college’s quality improvement policies and procedures using standard college systems, including course review and evaluation and the teaching and learning observation scheme. 13.
