About the Workshop
Reels of Revolution creative Lab is an innovative filmmaking workshop for young upcoming
filmmakers with focus on slum stories. The Lab forms an integral part of SFF festivities. It seeks to
provide a platform to empower the next generation of filmmakers by supporting them to take
their skills to the next level. The Reels of Revolution Creative Lab will take place in the month of
August.
The Lab will provide hands on film training to young film artists and shoot a short film on
the theme of Youth and Democracy. The Lab will seek to harness the power of film to tell
slum stories and promote social change. SFF seeks to promote dialogue about life in the
slums that goes beyond mere stereotyping, and to encourage discussion and action about
life in the slums.
Application Submission

Your application for 5th Annual Reels of Revolution Lab will only be processed if you meet
the following criteria:Application requirements:
1. Fill out the application in full and with relevant details.
2. Submit your recent resume and a cover letter introducing yourself and the work
you have done in film.
3. You should be working on a film project currently or have been involved in at least
one film project in the last six months.
4. Submission of an essay on any topical issue affecting you or your community and
how you think film can help change the discussions around it. (Not more than 2
pages).
5. You must submit a one-page synopsis of your screenplay.
6. You must submit a 3 to 10 page short screenplay that has a beginning, middle and
end and therefore cannot be an extract from a feature film.
7. Submit links to a film or films you may have written, directed or worked on
otherwise.
8. Participants should have access to a laptop during the training period for purposes
of script writing and revision with the SFF mentors.
9. You must be a citizen of Kenya.
10. For proof of citizenship, attach a copy of your passport or national identification
card.
11. You must also be least 21 - 26 years of age by August 1st 2015.
Selection of Participants:
1. Participants will be selected at the sole discretion of the SFF Selection Committee.
2. Applicants selected for participation will be informed via email by Thursday, July
30th 2015 at the latest.
3. The list of selected participants will be published on our website.
4. There is no legal claim to participate in the SFF Film Lab.
5. Submitted screenplays cannot be previously made films.
6. Strictly one project per applicant.
7. Only Applicants that are SHORT LISTED will be contacted (via email).
8. You must be fluent in both, written and spoken English.
*The lab will be conducted in English. However, if chosen, your script can be filmed in any
language of your choice.
Terms and conditions of Participation:● Participants will be expected to work on individual projects during mentorship
however, all individuals are expected to collaborate in the development of the final
project which will be no more than 10 minutes.
● SFF will own the copyright of the film that will be developed during the lab.

Important Information
Attendance:
1. The Film lab offers many privileges to all participants including a team of dedicated
renowned filmmakers. In return we expect your cooperation, daily and timely
attendance of all the workshops.
2. Please note: SFF reserves the right to remove participants from the training lab who
abuse their participation, who are repeatedly absent, or who make false statements.
3. This lab is a full time lab and you will be required to give your total dedication for the
lab period without exception, failure to do so will result in you being disqualified and
removed from further participation.
