First Campus Ball Krems: celebrating education and research in Lower
Austria
On 13 June 2015 Danube University Krems, IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems and
Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences are teaming up to stage the first ever
Campus Ball. For one night, Campus Krems will be transformed into Austria’s most
beautiful indoor and outdoor ball venue. The event is set to become an annual highlight
for Lower Austria’s education and science communities, and will promote dialogue with
the general public.
On 13 June 2015 Campus Krems will provide the backdrop for a memorable ball. The sparkling event,
held under the patronage of Reinhold Mitterlehner, Provincial Governor of Lower Austria Erwin Pröll
and the Mayor of Krems Reinhard Resch, is being jointly hosted for the first time by the Danube
University, IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems and Karl Landsteiner University of Health
Sciences. It is set to become an annual highlight on the region's educational and academic calendar.
The Campus Ball Krems aims to turn the spotlight on the importance of education, science and
research for Lower Austria and to promote dialogue with the public.
For one night, the study and research facilities at Campus Krems will be transformed into Austria’s
most beautiful indoor and outdoor ballroom. With music, dancing, a packed programme of
entertainment as well as regional delicacies and wines, the event will blend the elegant traditions of
Austrian ball culture with the charm of the Wachau winegrowing region. The universities of Campus
Krems are hosting a summer ball which will communicate the values of a successful educational,
scientific and research community – excellence, innovation and diversity – to a national and
international audience.
A unique opportunity to meet and mingle
Ulrike Prommer, CEO of IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, commented: “We are making an
important statement with the first Campus Ball Krems and giving the general public a better
understanding of the economic and socio-political significance of the institutions on the campus. I’m
especially pleased that this unique event will now take its place alongside the city’s traditional balls.
The beautiful setting amongst the hillside vineyards, the programme and the people who will attend
are what make this occasion so special.”
According to Friedrich Faulhammer, Rector of the Danube University: “We want the Campus Ball
Krems to be a place where scientists, university staff and everyone connected with Campus Krems
have the chance to meet and chat, to forge closer relationships with fellow researchers, colleagues
and people from their university days, and to make new contacts. And Campus Krems’ special
atmosphere will make it the ideal location.”
Rudolf Mallinger, Rector of Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences, added: “Krems stands out
as a university city thanks to the large number of internationally respected educational and research
institutions based there, the incredibly inspirational cultural and natural landscape, and its location in
the heart of a flourishing region for business and research in Lower Austria. Campus Krems plays a

key role in the provision of education and development for scientists and highly qualified experts. As
the newest institution on Campus Krems, we are very pleased to be jointly hosting the first Campus
Ball Krems with our partners at this very special location.”
Campus Krems offers the ideal study, research and living environment for students, scientists and
staff. The 34,000-square-metre campus is home to the Danube University Krems, IMC University of
Applied Sciences Krems, Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences, the Austrian Film Gallery and
other institutions. It has modern study and research facilities, comfortable student residences, a
variety of places to eat and drink as well as a cinema.
The principle goals of the campus – within the scope of the Research, Technology and Innovation
Programme of the Provincial Government of Lower Austria – include relaying the importance of
education, science and research to the general public, and fostering awareness of the crucial role
these areas play as a driver of regional cultural and economic development.
Calling the social tune for the education and research communities
Erwin Pröll, Provincial Governor of Lower Austria, said: “Initiatives like the Campus Ball Krems
underscore the importance of education, science and research in Lower Austria and promote dialogue
with the general public. With this ball the three institutes on campus – the Danube University Krems,
IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems and Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences – will
leave their mark on Lower Austria’s social calendar. This special event will play host to a science
lounge where people will have the opportunity to gain an insight into Lower Austria’s research
landscape.“
The science lounge will be one of the highlights at the Campus Ball Krems, with a video installation on
the theme of science and research in Lower Austria and an ingenious molecular kitchen offering
culinary creations including Lower Austrian science toasted sandwiches and a Lower Austrian cocktail
in the colours of the provincial flag. The Lenz Moser winery is kindly providing a welcome glass of
sparkling wine for every ball guest and music trio Tremblazz will be performing at the opening
ceremony. At midnight, performers from the Arthur Murray dance school will be putting on a glittering
show.
The eclectic programme of music will feature the Pepe All Star Band with traditional dance music,
chilled-out sounds from jazz and swing trio Julie & Friends, as well as modern dance hits mixed by DJ
Stephan Suchomel in the clubbing area. The billing for the late night show also features the Blues
Bros. Corporation and Pepe Schütz from The Rats are back.
