About Frantic Assembly
Frantic Assembly creates thrilling, energetic and unforgettable theatre (“the most innovative and
progressive theatre company around” The Times).
Led by founding Artistic Director Scott Graham the company attracts new and young audiences
with work that reflects contemporary culture. Vivid and dynamic, with a unique physical style,
the company has built a reputation as one of the most exciting companies in the country. Frantic
Assembly has toured widely throughout the UK, since its inception in 1994 and has performed,
created and collaborated in 30 countries internationally.
Frantic Assembly collaborates with many of the UK’s leading artists, regularly commissioning
writers to create original works for the stage. The period 2016/17 and 2017/18 will include two
major new commissions as well as two smaller-scale original touring projects.
Frantic Assembly operates an extensive Learn & Train programme introducing 9,000 participants
a year to the company's process of creating theatre. The company works in a wide variety of
educational and community settings including schools, universities, colleges and arts centres.
Frantic Assembly is a recommended theatre practitioner on UK curriculum (OCR, WJEC, AQA) as
well as the International Baccalaureate. The company has become increasingly in-demand
overseas to provide creative residencies in East Asia, the US, and Europe working with both
young people, as well as training teachers. From 2016 the company will be delivering practical
modules on a new Collaborative Theatre-Making MA it has created with Coventry University.
Frantic Assembly has also delivered 5 years of Ignition - a innovative vocational training project
for young men, particularly targeting those with little previous experience of the arts. Funded by
the Esmèe Fairbairn Foundation, Ignition engages the least engaged and unlocks creative
potential in boys across the UK from Glasgow to Plymouth.
The company also supplies dynamic choreographic and movement direction services to the wider
arts industry. These creative collaborations disseminate the methodology underpinning the
company’s artistic work, and engage actors and other artists with our unique approach. They also
expose new audiences to the work of the company, build partnerships and generate income.
Recent examples include the provision of movement direction on Channel 4’s drama Humans
and on Manchester Royal Exchange’s production of Rona Munro’s Scuttlers.
Scott Graham (for Frantic Assembly) is the co-choreographer of the National Theatre’s awardwinning production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time currently playing in the
West End, on Broadway and around the UK and Ireland on tour. The company provides associate
movement artists to all active and developing productions of this work to support maintenance,
rehearsals and re-casts in the UK and internationally.
