GENERAL MANAGER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Purpose of the role
To manage the administration for Rifco’s touring productions in UK and
Internationally, artistic schemes, fundraising, HR and legal requirements and to
ensure the smooth delivery of all projects and productions.
To work with the Executive Director to develop and deliver Rifco Arts Business
plan to ensure Rifco Arts operates as a successful and sustainable business
To work with the Executive Director to support Rifco’s financial systems.
To work with Artistic Director to support Artistic schemes and development
projects.

Responsible for:
• Freelance Project staff and consultants
• Office-based Placements and Volunteers
Productions
 Plan and organise schedules for tours, including international tours,
including transfers, accommodation and visas
 Book all tour travel and accommodation
 In consultation with the Executive Director, prepare all venue and coproducing contracts.
 Prepare contacts for all creative, production and performers
 Plan and prepare press night tickets and organise special events
 Support the production where needed.
Office Duties
 To oversee the management of the Rifco Arts office including health and
safety requirements.
 To be the central point of communication for all aspects of Rifcos
operation, including company meetings.
 To line manage any volunteers and placements with regular meetings,
reviews, sickness, holiday days and oversee timekeeping.
 To assist the Executive Director and Artistic Director with recruitment of
Production Teams.
 To ensure all training requirements are met.

In conjunction with the Executive Director, plan and prepare all
requirements to ensure compliance with all relevant company and
charitable legislation
In conjunction with the Executive Director and the accountants, keep
accurate financial records.
To maintain Rifco Arts policies, updating when necessary and ensuring all
plans are followed up by staff and the Board where relevant.
All other office Administration Duties that are relevant to the position.
To work with the whole team to promote and market Rifco Arts and its
activities to its target audience in line with a marketing and
communications strategy
Development & Friends Scheme
 To support the work of the Executive Director to represent the company to
stakeholders and funding bodies and, in particular, to ensure the
relationship with Arts Council East remains strong and productive
 To work with the Executive Director to make new contacts, devise and
attend fundraising events and face-to-face meetings with potential funders
and donors
 To ensure that careful research identifies new fundraising possibilities with
public funders, Trusts and Foundations and sponsors and ensure that
compelling applications are made
 To manage the Friends scheme, manage all aspects of the “benefits” of
the scheme membership in conjunction with the Communications and
Outreach Manager.
 To support the development of fundraising applications, evaluations and
annual submissions for the Arts Council and other funders as required.
 To assist the Board in their active role in supporting the fundraising
strategies
 To manage the ongoing relationships with donors
 To support the Executive Director with the development of new
relationships with sponsors
Audience Development and Artistic Development
 To work with the Executive and Artistic Director to plan and implement the
delivery of Rifco’s Artistic Development strand, including planning and
Administration.
 To work with Rifco’s Marketing and Audience Development officer to
deliver national projects in engaging with its communities. At times
represent Rifco and support in panning to administration.
Associate relationship with Watford Palace Theatre (WPT)
 To contribute to a fruitful relationship with Rifco’s host venue
 To ensure that Rifco complies with the joint agreement between the host
venue and Rifco operating in line with an agreed licence terms and
conditions

To attend the regular meetings with WPT’s Executive team towards
developing the partnership’s work, including community engagement, and
report on other activity which may impact on the host
To oversee the management of Rifco operational staff in compliance with
WPT’s policies
To take the lead in managing and reviewing shared services or other
emerging operational needs
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Salary: The contract is offered on an employed basis with a salary of £28,000 £30,000 per annum depending on experience.
Hours: This is a full-time post. There may be a requirement to work evenings
and weekends and you may be required to travel nationally and internationally.
Holiday: The standard annual leave entitlement is the statutory minimum of 5.6
weeks per year, which equates to 28 days per year including Bank Holidays.
Probationary Period: Three months.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential qualities, skills and experience:
 a minimum of three years’ management experience, likely to have been
gained within a producing theatre company or performing arts venue
 a track record of working to agreed budgets and deadlines
 proven ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a range of
partners
 Experience of marketing and audience development
 excellent negotiation and communication skills both written and verbal
 a proven track record of administrating professional theatre and
knowledge or experience of regional touring including tour booking
 an understanding of audience development issues particularly those
sections of the population that are currently under-represented
 experience of working in a small staff team
 a proven commitment to equal opportunities
 a highly motivated team player
 ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and
prioritise and organise own workload
Desirable qualities, skills and experience:

a good understanding of employment law, health and safety and licensing
legislation
Good knowledge of the Arts Councils policies and experience of funding
agreements.
Experience of regional building-based producing theatre
Productive and wide ranging contacts within the theatre sector
Knowledge/experience of governance and working with a Board of
Trustees
Experience of working in the not-for-profit sector or subsidised arts sector
Understanding of company secretarial work and the legal requirements for
an independent charitable organisation
