The ESO Director General ESO received officially on April 23rd 2009 a proposal for a
new node from the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Science of the Czech
Republic in Ondřejov.
The ARC Coordinating Committee (ACC), composed by the ESO ARC Department
Head (the ARC Manager), and the representatives of the ARC Nodes (as in the
Memorandum of Understanding ESO-08-MON-164, with final signatures of all the
funding agencies on May 19th 2009) discussed the new proposal and presented their
comments to the European ALMA Advisory Committee (ESAC).
Both committees agreed that the proposed ARC node in the Czech Republic will
provide valuable support for the community, bringing new expertise to the network of
the ARC nodes, and that the proposed organization of the nodes appears adequate to
the realization of these goals.
Their positive recommendation was endorsed by the ESO scientific and technical
committee, which advised the acceptance of the new node. After this the ESO DG
formally approved the creation of this new node on November 23rd 2009.
The Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Science of the Czech Republic in
Ondřejov accepts to sign the present Memorandum of Understanding stating the terms
of the agreement between ESO and the European ARC nodes, written according to
the ALMA Operations Plan and the European Implementation plans for the ESO
ARC and the ARC nodes.
