Lesson 1 of 9
Lesson Title:
AZ Teaching Standard:
S3C3PO1 - Write a single variable algebraic expression or one-step equation given a contextual
situation.
S3C3PO5 - Create and solve two-step equations that can be solved using inverse operations with
rational numbers.
S5C2PO1 - Analyze a problem situation to determine the question(s) to be answered.
S5C2PO4 - Represent a problem situation using multiple representations, describe the process used
to solve the problem, and verify the reasonableness of the solution.
Lesson Outcome: Students will use their knowledge of the 4-step problem solving strategy and
translating contextual situations into equations to solve problem solving problems on the 4-step
strategy template.
Evidence: at least two algebra problem solving problems (geared toward the “write an equation”
strategy) solved on the problem solving template.
Big Idea: Estimation increases the efficiency for responsibilities
