MHS NEWSLETTER OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2011

It is great to be back at school working with the students and parents to help our students achieve to the best of their potential.

Our McAdam High 2012 Yearbooks are now on sale, the cost is $35 with a $25 deposit required at the time of the order. You can order a yearbook from any 2012 Graduate or by calling the school at 784-

6828.

Our soccer teams have performed very well and we would like to send thanks to the coaches who have volunteered their time as well as the parents who have volunteered to provide transportation to the various venues. Continued parental support is greatly needed to continue to provide transportation for students to and from sporting and co-curricular events.

Cross country provincials are being held on Friday, October 14 th

at Odell Park in Fredericton. Come out and support our athletes.

The grade 7 students will complete their English Assessments on October 17 th

and 18 th

. We encourage them to be focused and give their best effort.

Teachers and educational staff will be undergoing training on Friday, October 21 st there will be no classes for students at this time.

The Halloween Dance will be held on Wednesday, October 26 th

from 9:00-11:00 for all grades.

Students are encouraged to attend. Any parents, who are interested in chaperoning, please contact Mr.

Kelly at the school 784-6828. Students are encouraged to wear their best costumes.

The Safe Grad Breakfast will be held at the McAdam Train Station on Saturday, October 29 th

from

8:00–10:30 AM. The cost is $7.00 per person. We apologize for any confusion the typo sent in the previous issue may have caused.

Basketball practices will start around November 1 st.

The Annual (AARAO) Careers and University Showcase will be held on Tuesday, November 1 st

at

Harvey High School for all students in grades 11/12. This is a great opportunity for students to explore future career choices.

Five students from the health committee will be attending TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use) training on November 1 st at Odell Park in Fredericton. We believe that this program offers our students a valuable opportunity to learn positive lifestyle choices and they will be afforded the opportunity to share their knowledge with other students within the school community.

The Grade 9 Take Our Kids to Work (TOKTW) initiative will be held on Wednesday, November

2 nd

. All grade 9 students will be asked to participate. Parents are asked to please make sure to sign the permission slips and mark the date on your calendar. Thanks to Mrs. Gillespie for setting up these two important student activities.

Exams for grades 9-12 will be held over a two week period November 7-18 inclusive. Exams will be held during class times and the teachers will forward the schedules to the students. Students are obligated to attend classes for the full day.

There will be school based Remembrance Day Activities on Friday, November 10 th for students. The ceremony will begin at approximately 2:10 PM. Parents can ask their children about the events and all parents and guardians are welcome to attend any of these activities.

The follow up HPV shots for all grade 7 girls will be administered on November 17 th

.

The annual Health Fair is scheduled for November 23 rd

. Health related activities for the students will be held throughout the day.

Parent teacher interviews will be held on Thursday November 24 th from 4:00 – 6:00 PM and on Friday,

November 25 th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. There will be no school for students on November 25 th

. Report cards will be handed out to parents who attend parent teacher interviews on these days.

The 12 th

annual Peggy McAleenan Varsity Girls’ Tournament will be held November 25 th

and 26 th with four teams competing. Come out and enjoy this highly esteemed event.

Also, there will be a professional development day for teachers to be held on Monday, November

28 th. There will be no school for students at this time.

For those parents who are unable to attend interviews, report cards will be sent home with the students on Tuesday, November 29 th

.

Our new SRC is working diligently, led by Taylor Gallant. Taylor has chosen to work with the student population, along with the rest of the SRC to enhance student involvement in the school environment.

If any parents wish to do so they may speak with the members of the Parent School Support

Committee, they will be meeting quarterly. Feel free to phone the school for contact information.

Just a reminder to parents, December 23 rd is the last day for students prior to the Christmas holidays.

This is a half day for the students. Students will resume classes on Monday, January 9 th

.
