Roof Deck Etiquette
The roof deck is one of the joys of living at 280 Beacon. So that all residents can partake equally
of its splendor, please remember:
NO SMOKING – SMOKING IS PROHIBITED IN ALL 280
COMMON AREAS INCLUDING ON THE ROOF DECK
 USE COMMON SENSE
 Residents are at all times responsible for their guests;
 Due to problems in the past, guests to the roof must be accompanied by a building
resident; under no circumstances is a resident to give building keys to friends or family so
that they might use the roof on the 4th or at any other time in the resident's absence;
 Stay within the railed deck; do not climb over the railing and walk on the roof itself; doing
so is not only dangerous (and stupid), but will also damage the roof;
 No grilling/cooking – no charcoal, or electric or gas grills; or any other type of cooking you
can think of;
 No kerosene lanterns; no candles or anything else that could start a fire;
 USE COMMON SENSE
 If you plan on providing alcohol, do so responsibly so neither you nor your guests become
“overly refreshed”;
 Be considerate of your fellow residents and clean up after yourself and your guests; take
with you when you leave anything you brought onto the roof when you came – leave it as
you found it (and as you would like to find it after its use by others); if you break a glass or
a plate, clean it up;
 Remember that noise carries – no loud speakers, etc.;
 Do not leave light “beach chairs”, “beach umbrellas” and their ilk in the open wind – even if
it is only for a “few minutes” while you nip downstairs;
 Small children should never ever be left unattended at any time;
 The roof deck is for everyone’s enjoyment so if you plan to use it for entertaining,
remember that other residents may wish to enjoy the deck at the same time;
 When leaving the roof, please close the door behind you – especially if you are the last to
leave;
 USE COMMON SENSE

And as you plan your 4th of July festivities, remember:
 So that all residents might enjoy the night, be considerate when inviting friends and
relations to join you for the pyrotechnics spectacular; please limit yourself to no more than
2 guests;
 The elevator has a limited capacity and will likely breakdown/become stuck if overcrowded.
It’s happened before. Remember, it’s the 4th and the response time to any emergency calls
may be slower than you’d like!!
