SUPERVISOR
POSITION:
Building & Grounds/Transportation Supervisor
REPORTS TO:
Superintendent and Building Principals

CONTRACT AND SALARY
Twelve-month contract with work schedule that requires flexible
hours. Salary and benefits package to be determined by the
Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma required, some college preferred.
2. Prior experience in bus maintenance, facilities maintenance and grounds maintenance preferred.
3. Prior experience in water plant management and wastewater plant management with certifications
preferred.
4. HVAC maintenance experience and certification preferred.
5. Ability to maintain and update bus routing and maintenance planning software.
6. CDL required (or ability to obtain).
7. Ability to solve problems.
8. Ability and experience in managing subordinates.
9. Possess appropriate social skills and attitude to work in a school.
10. Ability to work with a variety of people, including staff, students, parents and administrators.
11. Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the Board of Education deems appropriate and
acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and administer the district transportation program.
Develop and administer the district facilities maintenance program.
Develop and administer the district grounds maintenance program.
Completes and submits all required data to the Ohio Department of Education. This includes fuel
consumption and transportation mileage, etc.
5. Supervise custodial, maintenance and transportation employees.
6. Complete other duties assigned by the superintendent.
7. Examines school buildings on a regular basis for needed repairs and maintenance.
8. Establishes and recommends priorities in terms of labor, material, and overhead.
9. Assigns and supervises crews of craftspeople for maintenance work such as replacing worn or
defective wiring, switches, faucets, plumbing fixtures, and repairing fencing, asphalt, concrete, and
ceilings.
10. Coordinates and inspects work, and assists crewmembers.
11. Develops a system for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
12. Prepares reports on costs of work done, materials used, labor expended.
13. Orders materials as needed, and makes recommendations of supplies and equipment for purchase.
14. Assigns work orders, check drawings and plans
15. Consults with building principals regarding the establishment of regular preventive maintenance
programs.

17. Conforms with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation, including training,
inspections, drug/alcohol testing.
18. Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and insurance regulations and develops a
program of preventive safety.
19. Recruits, trains, and supervises all transportation personnel, and makes recommendations on their
employment transfer, promotion, and release.
20. Advises superintendent on road hazards for decision on school closing during inclement weather.
21. On call to handle emergency situations and staffing adjustments.
22. Cooperates with school principals and other responsible for planning special school trips.
23. Develops and administers a transportation program to meet al the requirements of the daily
instructional program and extracurricular activities.
24. Represents the district at state and local transportation meetings.
25. Formulates the specifications to be incorporated in contractual agreements and recommends purchases
to superintendent.
26. Approves alterations to contractual agreements when requested by contractors and school principals.
27. Prepares bus routes for all public and nonpublic schools in the district.
28. Prepares and updates bus schedules for all public and nonpublic schools in the district.
29. Attends appropriate committee and staff meetings.
30. Prepares and administers the transportation budget.
31. Authorizes purchases in accordance with budgetary limitations and district rules.
32. Approves and forwards transportation service invoices to accounting department.
33. Maintains all transportation-owned equipment and develops plans for preventive maintenance.
34. Prepares transportation payroll on bi-weekly basis.
35. Completes and dispatches insurance reports.
36. Submits all reports and maintains all records required by state authorities.
37. Takes an active role in solving discipline problems occurring on school buses.
38. Acts as liaison with parents of complaints and special requests.
39. Provides treasurer’s office with contractor performance qualification date.
40. Reviews annually the advisability of a district-owned transportation system.
BUILDING AND GROUNDS SUPERVISOR:
1. Assumes responsibility for the comprehensive overall planning and scheduling of maintenance and
repair requirements of the district.
2. Supervises the maintenance and operation of HVAC equipment at a peak efficiency level throughout
the year.
3. Establishes appropriate maintenance, grounds keeping, security and custodial requirements for the
district.
4. Directs the maintenance of all buildings and grounds as to cleanliness and safety.
5. Establishes and administers schedules and procedures for the regular ongoing custodial care of all
district facilities.
6. Recommends for purchase all necessary equipment and supplies.
7. Inspects all school buildings and grounds on a regular basis to determine that high standards of
workmanship, cleanliness, safety and security are maintained.
8. Conducts periodic inspection of all school facilities to ensure fire safety.
9. Organizes and implements a program of preventive maintenance.
10. Reviews on a regular basis all security and safety precautions and procedures.
11. Works with individual building principals in establishing emergency evacuation procedures for each
classroom and office.
12. Prepares and administers the budget for maintenance, grounds, security and custodial supplies and
equipment.
13. Coordinates all purchase requirements.
14. Supervises and inspects work performed by outside contractors.
15. Maintains a coordinated inventory control program for all areas.
16. Assists in the recruitment, employment, assignment, transfer, promotion, demotion or dismissal of
personnel.
17. Directs the preparation of the playing fields, grounds, and other necessary facilities for athletics and
other school activities.
18. Coordinates, supervises, and participates in the grounds maintenance of the school district.
19. Plans and directs the warehousing program for equipment and supplies.
20. Establishes and supervises summer cleaning programs and schedules.
21. Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent.

noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is responsible for
