END OF YEAR & GRADUATION INFORMATION
Friday, May 29th
Final Exam Day 1: Blocks 1 & 3
FINAL OBLIGATIONS: Many of you have been reminded (some several times) that your
outstanding obligations to the school system must be taken care of by this date. These include library books,
fees/fines to be paid, course work to be turned in, sports equipment to be returned, Saturday School hours,
detentions, etc. You will not receive your cap & gown if you do not take care of all of your obligations by this
date. You will not be eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony without fulfilling this requirement
either. Please check the list that is posted on the guidance windows.
Monday, June 1st
Final Exam Day 2: Blocks 2 & 4
Junior-Senior Banquet. This is a fun time to celebrate being a senior at CHS and a great way to enjoy
the evening of your last day of school. It is from 6 - 10 p.m. at the Embassy and will involve dinner, slideshow
and music/dancing. Tickets go on sale during lunches every day the week of May 18-22, 2015. The last day to
buy a ticket is Friday, May 22nd. Please donate your pictures to the slideshow!
Tuesday, June 2nd
Senior Breakfast. The senior breakfast will consist of donuts and bagels, juice and coffee. It will begin
at 7:45 a.m. in the cafeteria.
Class Meeting. During this breakfast time, we will have your last class meeting together. More
information concerning graduation details (a handout with reminders), future class reunions, etc. will be
provided.
Graduation Practice. Immediately following breakfast, we will go to the football field for graduation
practice unless weather necessitates practice in the gym. It is mandatory that you participate in this graduation
practice. If you plan on being at graduation on Sunday, you must be at this practice! Only Mr. Moldovan can
excuse you from this practice time -- see him with questions or concerns. Upon practice completion
outdoors, we will go back to the gym and practice it again. If it is deemed necessary by Mr. Moldovan, a
second practice date will be set (so we really need to get it right the first time!)
Caps & Gowns. Caps and gowns will be distributed after graduation practice (if all fees, fines and
other obligations have been cleared).
Thursday, June 4th
Baccalaureate. This event is not run by the Senior Class. It is held at our CHS Auditorium at 7:00 p.m.
Graduation:
Arrival: Graduation ceremonies will begin at 2:00 p.m. Parking is on-site and audience seating in the stadium
(visitor bleaches) is first-come, first-serve. All graduating seniors must be in the CHS cafeteria at 12:00 p.m.
Please park in the teacher's parking lot or at the top of the parking lot in front of the school. Please do not park
by the football stadium as we will ask you to move your vehicle. Mr. Moldovan is the only person who can
excuse you from this arrival time. We will take pictures (all students must have their pictures taken) and then
assemble in lines for the procession.
Caps & Gowns: Carry your cap and gown with you to school and into the cafeteria and then put it on when
you arrive (to avoid excess wrinkles). Use bobby pins for the caps. The tassel is to be worn on the left-hand
side of the front of your mortar board. (This is a tradition at Canfield High School.) Your mortar board needs
to be worn straight on your head -- not tipped backwards. The end of the front peak of your cap should be worn
half-way down the forehead. During the invocation, boys should remember to remove their mortar board.
We will have no extra tassels, honor cords, hats, etc. for you at graduation.
What to Wear Underneath: Girls are to wear dresses or skirts (the color should be unseen--nothing should
show at the bottom of your graduation gown) with black shoes (try to keep it at most a 2-inch heel.) If anything
shows at the top of your gown it should be white. Boys are to be dressed in black slacks--no denims or jeans--a
white shirt with a tie (any color) and black shoes. Mr. Moldovan has the final say on inappropriate
dress…please, no tennis shoes, jeans, flip-flops, shorts, etc. or you will simply not participate in the ceremony.
Please do not bring any valuables with you. We do not provide a place to store your purse. Souvenir programs
will be available after the ceremony.
Pictures: Individual pictures will be taken by Robert Senn in the Cafeteria from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. They will
take your picture for free, but if you wish to order pictures, please have your money & order form filled out
ahead of time to help this process move as quickly as possible. More photos will also be taken during the
ceremony and available on the Robert Senn Studio website afterwards.
Graduate Seating: Seating of graduates is mostly alphabetical (other than honor students and class president)
with rare exceptions. Several students -- in addition to the officer corps-- will be asked to serve as "Row
Captains" during the processional.
In Case of Rain: The ceremony will be held in the gymnasium. All procedures will be the same as practiced,
but you will be asked to limit your guests to four due to seating capacity limitations in the gymnasium.
Overflow seating will be in the CHS Auditorium with a live video feed of commencement ceremony.
Tickets: In the event that the ceremony is held indoors, anyone wishing to attend will need a ticket to enter.
Five tickets will be issued per graduate for the gymnasium. (Students will receive these tickets on Tuesday,
June 2nd during practice.) The auditorium will handle the overflow, with live video feed of the
commencement ceremony. Only five tickets per student will be issued for the gymnasium. You will not need
tickets to enter commencement outdoors. If you have someone with handicap seating, chairs will be set up on
the floor of the gym.
Special Seating: If any members of your families need handicapped seating arrangements you must notify
Mrs. McGuffin in the main office by Tuesday, June 2nd.
Congratulations & Best Wishes to the CHS Class of 2015!
