PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
The position of Communications & Social Media Coordinator is accountable for
delivering consistent, quality marketing and communications outcomes across varied
media streams.
The Communications & Social Media Coordinator will also coordinate marketing and
communications campaigns from conception to design and implementation. This
includes delivering internal, external and web publications, marketing campaigns,
EDM campaigns and social media.
ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT
Arc @ UNSW is an incorporated company limited by guarantee governed by a Board
of Directors of 13 people. Arc is a voluntary student membership organisation that
provides recreational, cultural, representational and retail services to the students of
the University of New South Wales (UNSW). The organisation operates as a
commercial entity to maintain financial viability and to provide student services and
programs for members.
The organisation operates on both of UNSW’s Sydney campuses, Kensington and
the College of Fine Arts site in Paddington as well as providing services to students
who study off campus. The organisation provides a full suite of service offerings and
back office support for both Kensington and COFA campuses. UNSW is comprised
of over 35, 000 students with about 65% of those being undergraduate students and
the remaining 35% being postgraduate students.
Arc @ UNSW directly employs approximately 50 staff on a permanent basis and
approximately 60 casual staff. The organisation also utilises the time and resources
of a large number of student volunteers to administer programs and events.
Day to day management of the organisation is performed by a Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) who reports to the Arc Board. The CEO is supported by a senior
management team accountable for operations of the organisation at both campuses.

This positions reports to the Director of Student Services. In addition, this position is
required to maintain positive relationships with and liaise with other Arc Departments,
Representative Councils and the Board. This role is required to maintain
relationships with and provide support to UNSW students and other members of the
UNSW community.

KEY TASKS & ACCOUNTABILITIES



Successfully manage and develop online communications campaigns across
several brands including Arc @ UNSW, UNSW Roundhouse and related events.
This includes market research, creating publishing schedules, copy writing for
web and print publications, liaising with designers and coding, sending and
tracking (html) eNewsletters, EDM’s and anything else directed by the Director of
Student Services.
Develop and manage the organisations messaging calendar based upon the key
focuses and strategic direction of the organisation.
Professionally coordinate marketing and promotional campaigns from conception
to print and implementation. This includes market research, campaign planning,
writing tailored copy for Arc publications, liaising with designers and printers,
implementing plans and analysing results.

Successfully develop social media guidelines, implement strategies and monitor
trends. This includes writing and implementing social media policies, using social
media CRM tools, creating Facebook and Google Adwords campaigns,
implementing social media incentive programs media monitoring and anything
else directed by the Director of Student Services.
Successfully manage content, marketing and development of Arc’s smart phone
apps. This includes formulating strategy, sourcing and uploading content, liaising
with external content providers and third party developers.
Accurately maintain content on Arc’s general, UNSW Roundhouse and UNSW
Oktoberfest sites in addition to Arc’s email database. This includes online
subscriptions, website metrics, data regulation and extraction for strategic and
demographical purposes.
Effectively design and implement appropriate market research strategies to
forecast Arc’s future needs. This includes online surveys, field research and
running focus groups.
Effectively manage public relations for Arc and UNSW Roundhouse events. This
includes extensive market research, campaign planning, liaising with media,
coordinating media visits, writing media releases, placing advertisements, and
analysing results.
Undertake tasks as directed by the Director of Student Services from time to time.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
 Relevant tertiary qualifications in marketing or communications
 2 years’ experience in online and print marketing
 Proven expertise in online marketing and strategy focusing on social media
and direct marketing
 Proven expertise in social media CRM’s and email marketing software
 Solid communication (verbal and written) skills
 Be able to juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
 Knowledge of the youth, music and tertiary markets

