Northwestern University- Clinical Psychology Internship-LGBT Health Track.
The APA-Approved Internship Program in Clinical Psychology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg
School of Medicine is seeking applicants for three new internship positions for the 2013-2014 academic
year and beginning immediately. Sponsored jointly by the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral
Sciences, the IMPACT LGBT Health and Development Program in the Department of Medical Social
Sciences, the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine, and the Center on Halsted,
these positions are designed to prepare clinical psychologists for careers addressing the behavioral
health needs of the underserved populations of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)
individuals. Funded by a grant from HRSA, this represents a substantial expansion of our internship
program. We are seeking clinical psychology trainees who have interests in clinical practice, public
health, and clinical research with the LGBT community.
The internship program at Northwestern has been accredited by the American Psychological Association
(APA) since 1955, and has long been a valued and integral part of the Department of Psychiatry and
Behavioral Sciences. The medical school, the university, and our affiliated clinics are committed to
providing advanced, evidence-based mental health services to populations in need, as well the highest
quality training for the next generation of clinical psychologists. In existence since 2008, the IMPACT
LGBT Health and Program at Northwestern is in the Department of Medical Social Sciences. The IMPACT
Program is an innovator in bridging and integrating research and services that advance LGBT public
health. A hallmark of the IMPACT Program is its active collaboration with community-based
organizations, including the Center on Halsted, where IMPACT is a resident partner. Center on Halsted
(COH) advances the community and secures the health and well-being of LGBT and queer people of
Chicago. With over 30 years of experience providing mental health services and training, COH is the
Midwest’s most comprehensive LGBTQ community center. The Division of Infection Diseases in the
Department of Medicine at Northwestern ranks 14th among the Top 20 Best AIDS Programs in the
United States, providing high quality care to individuals with HIV/AIDS through the HIV Center within
Infectious Disease Center at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Through rotations spanning these
collaborating organizations, the internship offers (1) integrated training in mental healthcare for LGBT
clients in the community, (2) gay and bisexual men living with HIV/AIDS in an infectious disease clinic, (3)
