a. December Recap: Brashear Association Thank You letter, December Dinner
b. YMF Strategic Plan 2014-2019: Jim, Lauren, Matt K. – Section Wide Survey (Does anyone have
experience using Survey Monkey?)
c. ERYMC: Feb. 7-8th. Registration only online this year: Attending – Karen, Sonya, Tim Brett, Linda, Angela,
Jim (maybe), Bill, Melissa (maybe again), Matt C. is a maybe. You must use Internet Explorer to register!
i. ERYMC Awards Submitted (Public C.E.; Private C.E.; Practitioner Adviser; and Peers Group).
Awards will be determined by next meeting.
d. Elections: Call for Nominations February 4th Meeting. Start thinking about getting more involved!
i. To vote: Your Pittsburgh Section Dues are paid; Verify by logging in on the Pittsburgh website

ii. Chance for nominees to speak at March meeting
iii. Current positions include VP, Treasurer, and Secretary.
e. Engineers Week Banquet on February 22nd
f. Legislative Fly-In, Washington D.C. March 18-20th – Deadline for getting funds has passed.
i. Looking to host a seminar “How to talk to your Legislator 101.” Currently talking to Jennifer
Cloonan who handles Government Relations for FHLBank BEFORE March 18th.
ii. PR University held February 1st Harrisburg Provided by ASCE National.
g. Updating YMF Logo, currently illegal
h. Structural Tour Presbyterian Church Downtown: January 16th 6:00pm $10 to be paid at event (5-ppl)
i. Funds from fee will be donated to the church
i. Future Cities competition is looking for Judges: Saturday January 18th
i. Job will involve working most of the morning into the afternoon. You will get lunch! Yummy.
j. WinterFest: Saturday January 25th at Seven Springs – Discussed doing a “Mass Mailing” to advertise
since sign-ups are slow. So far 11 people are likely attending.
k. LDI Candidate: 2014-2015 Year – You do not have to do this through ASCE. Individuals can apply.
3. Section Update
a. E-Room: Looking into utilizing for YMF use for online document storage
b. Section Level Committees: Newsletter, Program, & Website – need volunteers. Program Chair has been
filled. Contact Karl S. about the Newsletter. Contact Missy F. about the website position.
c. EWRI Sustainability Conference January 23rd Phipps DELAYED Peduto to reschedule
d. SEI dinner with ABCD January 23rd
e. Geo-Institute Dinner January 23rd Shale Gas

Vice President’s Report

a. ACE - structural session. Wind tunnel will be built by the Carpenter’s Union. Wind loading and wind
tunnel testing - January 22 @ 4-6 pm.
b. Newsletter update: Looking to events for January to promote deadline 01/13.Ensure that calendar dates
make it to the newsletter.
c. CMU is paid up.
Treasurer’s Report

a. Current Balance: $2140.72
b. Outstanding Collections / Disbursements – Jesse (alcohol purchase)? Lauren $220.75
i. Waiting on AECOM $600 sponsorship – has been sent out, should be received and processed.
c. December Dinner – Request the final PayPal/Section allotment; Student Subsidy

1. Registration is now open please register a team
2. Currently have 3 teams signed up. Lou will send reminder email. There’s a sign-up sheet
for refs.
b. Technical
7:25 – 7:30
i. Roaming Leadership Development Series; Start off at BZ Bar and Grill, Date TBD. It expires in
MAY. Need to utilize ASAP.
ii. Greg Scott/Angela – Presentation (LDI) Initiative tentative. “Still looking into that”.
iii. Legislative 101 Crash Course – “How to talk to your Legislator” March TBD
iv. Post Disaster Assessment Workshop: March 8th at CEC finalizing details with national. Cost ≈
$100 and will take 6 hours and include 6 PDH’s. Students may participate but costs may be a
deterrent.
c. Community Service / Team Building

i. Spring Egg Hunt @ Children’s Institute date: March 19 tentatively
ii. Volunteer Speed dating:
1. Education Partnership Project volunteer needed to separate and collect supplies. Sara
M. can pull this together. Can send out flyers if anyone is interested. This does not have
to be a group effort. Doodle Survey was suggested coordinate times for volunteers.

7:30 – 7:35
i. Roaming Happy Hours?
ii. Supporting the section with Member Survey; Meeting held January 6th
1. Contacting national to get Tim “legal” to receive membership data
2. Active member: Attend 1 meeting or 3 events. Being active means we can count you for
awards purposes.
iii. Office Champions – Pens Raffle/Church Tour/Winterfest/Post Disaster/Awards/Spring Social.
1. This should only be used once per month, max.
2. This should also include all upcoming events, and office champions can choose to
publicize at their discretion.
e. Social
7:35 – 7:40
i. Tie-up Outstanding December Dinner receipts, thank you, surveys, etc.
1. 50/79 surveys filled out and included mostly 4’s and 5’s. 1’s and 2’s centered around the
location and the date (which we can’t do anything about as it is precursor for the
December Dinner to be held…in December). Results were good overall.
ii. Venue for Joint Social: Steel Cactus, Mario’s. Tentative date of April 25th.
1. Interested: CAWP (Constructors Association of WP); YPT (Young Professionals in
Transportation), ASHE, ESWP, PSPE
2. SAME is missing, they haven’t responded.
3. Mario’s is booked. Suggested checking “Social” in Bakery Square.
4. YPT may only be able to pay $500. Committee will need to have an offline discussion
about this.
iii. Jamie W. looking into “ASCE-YMF Picnic” family outing
1. Suggestions on Parks in or around Pittsburgh w/parking
- Veteran’s Pavillion. Need to rent those early. Must decide early bc of lottery
system. Also, person booking must be a resident.
2. Time to hold: Friday afternoon, Saturday around lunch, Sunday late lunch
3. Tentative Dates: April 25th,26th or 27th; May 2nd, 3rd, 4th or May 16th, 17th, 18th
- May 17th is the tentative date. YMF will supply meat and permitting fees. Others
to bring sides. Discussion as to whether to invite other organizations and the
Section, as this is a good opportunity for section members to interact with the
YMF.
4. Would people be willing to bring food? Pay caterer? BYOB? YMF supply?
f. Outreach
7:40 – 7:50
i. ”Ask an Engineer” Panel/Program
ii. STEM Career Symposium at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit at The Waterfront - Feb 3, 2014.
Still waiting to hear back from STEM.
iii. Hands-on event at Moon Library – March 12th at 6pm for teens. Includes doing video
presentation and hands-on event.
iv. Future Cities is looking for judge volunteers event January 18th Oakland
v. Give any local School contacts you have to Leanne
vi. Outreach activity binder is still being developed. Linda and Karen PROMISE!

vii. Central Catholic to have discussion on bridges, buildings, and truss analysis model. 36 kids
totaling 90 minutes. Will need more than the usual 2-3 volunteers that usually attend. Email Lou
or Leanne if you’re interested. It will probably occur in the a.m.
g. Employment
7:50 – 8:00
i. Tentative dates Resume book deadlines:
1. January 17, 2014 - Due date for resumes. THIS IS NOT A TENTATIAVE DATE!
2. January 31, 2014 - Publication on the ASCE Pittsburgh website
ii. About 20 resumes received so far.
h. Website/Facebook – Looking for future successor

i. Integration/Dissemination of Information for website award
i. Fundraising: GOAL: $1,500
8:05 – 8:10
i. Pens Raffle – Lauren T. secured 4 tickets for 3/18 against the Dallas Stars.
1. Bill has no clue where this currently stands.
2. Please take some tickets to sell at the office/family/etc..
3. Incentive: 10 extra tickets to the top seller
4. Confirmed to sell tickets at Section Awards Banquet

ii. Bowling – Jimmy start looking at a date/how to make a fundraiser. Still investigating Arsenal
Lanes and hosting event sometime in April from Tues-Thurs.
iii. March Madness – Jeff advertise February for sign-ups. Create a Facebook Group with a $5 buyin, 50/50 raffle, and run off of Jeff’s PayPal Account.
iv. Mini-Golf outing, Football Block for 2014, Suggestions?
j. ERYMC

i. Preparation of Presentation for Indianapolis meeting January 8th
ii. Tentative deadlines
1. February – Linda & Karen to present Pittsburgh to the ERYMC Business Meeting. Mike
P., Sara M., and Karen M. will meet tomorrow to work on presentation.
2. May – Notification from ASCE National of selection
k. Student Affairs: Student Awards Foundation(nominations Due January 16th)8:15 – 8:45
i. Pitt: Held Elections, Looking for interesting Projects to visit or Professional to speak on Friday
afternoon 2hours over lunch; Student/Professional networking bowling Late Jan/Feb. Still
looking for speakers during Seminar. 11:00-12:00.
ii. CMU: New Practitioner Advisor - Gabby Briffa G.Briffa@gaiconsultants.com
Held elections; OVSC conference planning; Sending Students to ERYMC. New board takes over in
January (i.e. Now). Judging info for OSVC was passed around. 4 students attending ERYMC.
iii. Geneva: Held elections; Corey attend Jan Section Meeting; Panel discussion Spring, but wants
confirmed attendees prior to scheduling panel discussion. Design is beginning for Steel Bridge
Competition.
iv. UPJ: Stephanie Buncich attending meeting to update about National Concrete Canoe
Competition June; Sending Board to ERYMC; Contact Bill Confair bill.confair@aecom.com if you
are interested in participating in a panel discussion at UPJ at a date T.B.D. The drive is
approximately 1.5 hours. Also, Matt K. is stepping down and Steph B. will be stepping up.
v. Point Park: Attending OVSC – Not sure if Doug is interested or not, but will touch base to see if
he still is.
