Robert (Bob) J. Camillone, M.ASCE, was a distinguished Civil Engineer and friend of the
American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). A member of ASCE and the IL Section since 1979,
Bob was on the Transportation Group Executive Committee, serving as Hospitality Chair as well
as assisting on many other committees. Bob also was on the IL Section’s Communications and
Awards committees, and received ASCE Life Membership in 2008. His distinctive outlook,
dedication to learning and to promoting engineering, and his contributions to ASCE are deeply
appreciated.
Bob earned a BSEE from the University of Illinois, Urbana (1965), and joined Cutler-Hammer Inc.,
Milwaukee, WI designing electrical/electronic systems for industrial plants and over 120
Navy/Marine Ships. His career also included engineering at the Electro-Motive Division of GM in
LaGrange IL, the Pullman-Standard Passenger in Chicago, Day & Zimmerman Inc. / Pullman
Technology Inc., and consulting to LTV Steel, the Veterans Administration, and US Steel
Corporation. In addition to his day job, he also earned a MSCE with Thesis from IIT’s Weekend
Program (1977) and an MBA from the Lewis University Professional Evening Program (1996). A
member of the Western Society of Engineers and a life senior member of the Institute of Electrical
and Electronic Engineers, Bob was a University of Illinois Ambassador, helping students entering
and graduating college.
Bob passed away in November 2010, but his spirit lives on in the form of those students seeking
to become civil engineers dedicated to making the world a better place for all.

The Illinois Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) - Transportation Group, is
seeking candidates for the Bob Camillone Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2000 to an
undergraduate and $2000 to a graduate student to be awarded in April of 2014 at the ASCE
Illinois Section President-Elect / Student Awards Dinner.
To be eligible for a scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
 Full-time civil engineering undergraduate or graduate student majoring in
transportation engineering or a closely related field (structures, drainage, etc.)
 Enrolled in a civil engineering program at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC),
Northwestern University (NU), or the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
 Scheduled to be a full-time engineering undergraduate or graduate student for the
Fall 2014 semester.
Candidates will be evaluated by the selection committee on the following basis:
 Academic performance
 Education, career objectives, and a passion for the engineering profession
 Letters of recommendation
 Community involvement and other extracurricular activities
 Member of ASCE, Illinois Section or the local student chapter

 Completed application form
 One (1) copy of most recent transcript including current registered classes for 20132014 academic school year
 One (1) copy of registered classes for Fall 2014 (or Summer 2014) semester
 Two (2) letters of recommendation from faculty members, employers or other
significant persons. Please have them mailed to the address listed below.
All information should be packaged and postmarked by Friday, March 7th, 2014.




The presentation of the scholarships will be held at the ASCE Illinois Section President-Elect / Student Awards
dinner on April 17, 2014 in downtown Chicago. Recipients will be allowed to bring a guest to the dinner.
