Minutes of Our Tottenham Conference Organising meeting on 27 March 2013
1. The 16 people attending introduced themselves - members and reps from Peoples World Carnival Band, Holy Trinity
Church, Lord Morrison Hall, Wards Corner Community Coalition, Haringey Solidarity Group, Haringey Housing
Action Group, Clyde Area Residents Association, Tottenham Civic Society, Haringey Federation of Residents
Associations, Friends of Lordship Rec, Defend Haringey's Health Services
2. Apologies - were received from members and reps of Living Under One Sun, Tower Gardens Residents Group, DayMer, Haringey Green Party + Felicia.
3. Minutes of the last meeting were approved
4. Who’s doing what – volunteers agreed to do various tasks and jobs at the conference. Updated chart to follow separately.
The deadline for replies to who will do jobs at the Conference will be midday Weds 3 April.
5. Questionnaire: Sent out last week re numbers expected to attend, volunteering, donations etc. Please can all supporting
groups/individuals fill this in asap - return to us by noon this Wednesday 3rd April.
6. Facilitiators: Mital will do a general guide for the workshop facilitators
7. Workshops organisation/allocation: Dave will do a workshops sign-in sheet and a workshops plan to put up on the wall.
Workshop themes will be fleshed out in the programme. Jay to ask all those doing the intros to send in one or two paras of
explanation.
8. Conference Programme: Dave had drafted a preliminary welcome/programme, which was passed around. Jay and Dave to
finalise.
9. Filming: James will do filming for the organising group to have a record of the conference.
10. The Our Tottenham Charter - A draft introduction/context (taken from our previously-agreed Statement) was approved.
At the end of Charter is a space for action points – 3 per workshop in the second session = 24. These action points should be
broader than immediate actions and developed (helped by the facilitator at each workshop) from the ideas put forward on the
flip charts. The facilitator will then ask the group if they will take the 3 points forward to report back to the conference. The
conference will be asked if they support these action points. We agreed that the Charter would be worked on and finalised
after the conference, and also could be developed further in coming months if needs be.
11. Press: The OT comms group (including James, Dave and Mittal) did a press release last week with lots of quotes from
supporting groups, and will do another one for after the conference.
12. Publicity: 2,000 colour leaflets had been printed, many already circulated. There was a leafletting session planned in Bruce
Grove on Sat 30th. There were a couple of versions of a poster available - see our website. All urged to spread details by email,
fb and twitter.. as well as word of mouth.
13. Finances: Raffle planned at conference - more prizes being donated would be welcome. Donations from Lord Morrison
Hall (£50) and Haringey Green Party (£50) gratefully received in the previous week. Other groups promised to bring/send in.
Cheques to: 'Haringey Federation of Residents Associations'. £26 collection taken at the end of the meeting, £16 of which was
handed to NLCH for room hire.
14. Follow up meetings after the conference - to be at North London Community House, 7pm Weds 10 April and Weds 24
April. To discuss: Press procedures, Conference Report, Charter, Demonstration on May 11th.
15. Community Centres: Marchu reported on the meeting of community-run community centres held recently. There will be
a follow up meeting for such centres on Weds 3 April at Chestnut Community Centre at 7pm
16. Next organising meeting - Weds 3 April 7pm at North London Community House
