Jan 31st : In the Garden with God
During this Jubilee Year of Mercy the Church
offers us a general pardon, an indulgence that is
open to all and the possibility to renew our
relationship with God and neighbor. It’s an
opportunity to deepen our faith and to live with a
renewed commitment to Christian witness. In
calling the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis focuses the
attention of the world on the merciful God who
invites all men and women to return to Him. Ruth
Burrows, a Carmelite nun for more than 50 years,
reminds us that, “God liked to walk and talk in the
Garden in the cool of the day with the man and
woman he created.” The initial rite of the Jubilee
Year on December 8 was the opening of the Holy
Door of St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. This door is
opened only during a holy year. It is shut tight
during all other years. The rite of the opening of
the Holy Door illustrates the idea that, during the
Jubilee Year, the faithful are offered an
“extraordinary pathway” to salvation. When we
repent, it’s as if the door to the Garden of Eden is
open to us once again. And we can walk in the
garden with our God. Our prayer today: My God,
I have wandered far from the path you want me to
follow. Thank you for your mercy in allowing me
to walk at Your side once again.
Inspiring Words from Pope Francis:
Jesus Christ Loves You – “There is never a
reason to lose hope. Jesus says: ‘I am with you
until the end of the world.”
Planning to Marry:
Anyone planning to marry in 2016 in either of our
parishes and has not yet contacted the rectory as to
your intention, please do so as soon as possible.
All couples are required to attend Marriage
Preparation Classes as well as Marriage Planning
Meetings with Fr. Michael. Under normal
circumstances these requirements can take up to
six months.
Daily Divine Services:
As we begin a new year, please consider beginning
a “new habit” in your life. Plan to attend and
participate in the daily circle of prayers and
services of our Church. Our Lord invites us to
come to Him each and every day. What better way
to begin each day than to accept His invitation and
spend a few brief moments with Him in prayer!
Pysanky Classes:
Again this year our parish will sponsor pysanky
classes during the Lenten season. We are blessed
to welcome Mrs. Rose Demsko, a renowned local
pysanky artist, to teach these classes as she had for
the past several years. Classes will be held each
Thursday during Lent, beginning on February 11th,
2016 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. We invite all
parishioners and friends in the community to
attend and participate. Rose will work with
beginners, intermediate and people with advanced
skills. The classes are free of charge, however you
must bring along at least 2 uncooked eggs to work
with. All ages are welcome, but anyone under the
age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. To
register, please call the rectory office at 570-3390650.
Tomatoes, Green Beans, Cole-slaw and Coffee or
Tea. Soft drinks and desserts will be available for
purchase. Tickets are $8.00 to eat-in- or $8.25 for
take-out. Tickets are available now and can be
purchased in the rectory office or in the Church
Vestibule before all weekend Divine Liturgies.
We sincerely hope all will support this new parish
project.

SUNDAY OF MEATFARE:
Troparion:
Let the heavens be glad, let the earth rejoice, for
the Lord has done a mighty deed with His arm. He
trampled death by death. He became the first-born
of the dead; He saved us from the abyss of Hades
and granted great mercy to the world.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to
the Holy Spirit:
Kontakion:
When You will come to earth in glory, O God, and
all creatures will tremble before You, the river of
fire will flow before Your judgment-seat, and the
books will be opened and all hidden things
revealed, deliver me from the unquenchable fire
and make me worthy to stand at You right hand, O
righteous Judge.
Now and ever and forever. Amen.
Theotokion:
Today the Virgin stands before us in the church,
and together with the choirs of saints invisibly
prays to God for us. Angels are worshipping with
hierarchs, apostles exult with prophets, for the
Mother of God prays in our behalf to the eterrnal
God.
Prokimenon:
Great is Our Lord and mighty in strength, and His
wisdom is without measure.
V. Praise the Lord for He is good.
Sing to our God for He is loving; to Him
Our praise is due.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
V. Come, ring out your joy to the Lord;
Hail God Who is our Savior.
V. Let us come before Him, giving thanks; with
songs let us hail the Lord.
Alleluia (3x)
Epistle: 1 Cor 8:8-9-2
Gospel: Mt. 25:31-46
Communion Hymn:
Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in
the highest.
Alleluia (3x)
2nd Hymn:
Exult, you Just, in the Lord; praise from the
upright is fitting.
(Alleluia (3x)
Best Lent Ever:
I have come across a fantastic resource for all of us
to use as part of our Lenten journey. It’s called
The Best Lent Ever, and it’s very simple to use. It
is a program developed by the group Dynamic
Catholic. It is a free email program that will help
you discover simple ways to bring Jesus into your
everyday life, leading to a more personal
relationship with Him and your Best Lent Ever.
It’s simple and easy to use and there are no strings
attached. Simply go to the website
“DynamicCatholic.com/Lent” and sign up. It takes
only 30 seconds to do this. When Lent begins, each
day for forty days, you will receive a two-minute
video with the thought and reflection for the day.
You can watch it whenever you choose in the
privacy of your home. I’ve read the book upon
which this Lenten program is based and I’ve
already signed up to make it a part of my Lenten
prayer life. I strongly and whole-heartedly
encourage you to sign up as well. I promise, your
life will take on new meaning and purpose. Again,
the website for sign up is:
DynamicCatholic.com/Lent.
As you know, we do not have a maintenance
person or janitor at either of our parishes. There is
always something that needs to be done, from
changing light-bulbs to candles, to general cleanup and repairs. As we enter a new year, please
consider volunteering some of your time on a
regular basis to help out around the Church. It
takes a big effort to maintain our property and
buildings, your help would be immensely
appreciated.
Sunday Offerings:
Also, as we begin a new year we ask you to reflect
upon your generosity to our Parish. If it is possible
for you to do so, try to make an increase in your
weekly donations…even if it is only $1.00….every
little bit helps! Facts are facts, in the past 5 years
we have buried approximately 100 parishioners
and many more have moved to nursing facilities,
unable to support the parish any longer. The
burden falls upon all of us if we are to keep our
Parishes open, operating and strong. Please
respond positively and generously to our weekly
financial obligations.
Sorokousty-Memorial Envelopes:
The Sorokousty Memorial Envelopes which are in
your envelope packet must be received in the
church office by February 8, 2016 or place them
in the collection basket.

Invitation” so that every household in both our
parishes can use it during the Lenten season.

We are grateful to those individuals and families
who have sponsored the candles in our sanctuary

candles burn every day of the year for their
personal intentions. There are still two candles

Church: The candle in front of the Icon of St. John
the Baptist and the Candles on the Tetrapod. The
cost of sponsorship for the entire year is $150.00.
If you are interested in making a donation for these
candles, please notify the rectory office.
