Charlotte's original 50-bed hospital opened on June 4, 1962. There were three full-time physicians and
one part-time physician associated with Bayfront Health Port Charlotte at this time.
Since then, this small, one-story community hospital has grown into a 254-bed Joint Commission

Responsibilities:







Manages the risk functions of the market facilities including Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and
Bayfront Health Punta Gorda Hospitals.
Responsibility for loss prevention, regulatory compliance with Federal and State regulations, and
patient safety in conjunction with the Market Director of Quality and Safety.
Coordinate all functions of risk management including planning, monitoring, and implementing
of goals and objectives.
Manages the event reporting process including investigating and analyzing
incidents/occurrences to meet organizational and external agency requirements.
Develops and implements risk and safety management policies for the institutions and
participates in the education and monitoring of compliance with those policies by the
institutions personnel.
Works with the Market Compliance officer on issues of regulatory compliance.
Oversees the grievance process and insures proper follow-up on patient grievances.





Works with Insurers and legal counsel on litigation issues including copying and maintaining
records related to the cases. Assist in investigating, analyzing, and settling claims.
Maintains appropriate confidentiality of data, records and files as required by regulation.
Insures all records, evidence, specimens, x-rays, etc. related to events or investigation is
properly secured.
Informs senior management of significant risk issues in a timely manner. Reports status of
litigation issues to CMO/CEO in a time frame established by management.
Reports on risk and safety issues to senior management, committees, and the Board of Trustees
as required by hospital policy and regulatory requirements.
Keeps the company regional risk manager and legal counsel informed of status of claims and
potentially compensable events per established protocols.
Qualifications:



Registered Nurse in the state of Florida with at least a BSN, but preferably holding an additional
masters degree.
Must have 5+ years of acute care risk management experience with multi-site responsibilities.
Currently hold the Florida licensed Healthcare Risk Manager Certification.
