BITURE PROGRAM
Biology and Biotechnology Undergraduate Research Experience
Program
What: The BITURE Program is a summer research experience for undergraduates at
UNC Charlotte in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Details: The program will provide intensive research training for 10 students for 10
weeks, during the summer. The REU program is open to all undergraduate students who
are citizens, nationals or permanent residents of the United States.
Benefits: Students will gain skills in lab research, develop their critical
thinking/problem-solving skills, and understand the process of science. Students will
participate in multiple interactive seminars, workshops, and expeditions on and off
campus designed to promote professional development and social interaction among
both student participants and faculty mentors. At the end of the program, students will
present their research in a poster and/or oral presentation at the UNC Charlotte
Summer Research Symposium.
Support: Students will be supported with a stipend of $5250 as well as a
transportation allowance, subsistence allowance, and housing on-campus.
Projects: Research projects include bioinformatics and whole genome analyses,
generation and study of transgenic soybeans for agricultural use, study of microbial
populations for biofuel development or water treatment, and use of nanoparticles in
bioavailability or environmental impact studies.
Application : Applications will be accepted until February 15, 2015. Details about the
application process can be found at http://biology.uncc.edu/research/reubiotechnology.
