Make a weather chart and film your own weather forecasts! Learn about the countries and capital
cities of the UK, points of the compass and weather symbols along the way.

By the end of this block you
will have achieved the
following outcomes:
Session 1 Geography/English
Mime UK Weather
Activities
Children will identify daily
weather patterns in the UK
and have the opportunity to
mime weather activities.
Session 2 Geography/English
Map Work!
Learn about map work and
how to make a key, all
through being inspired by
the fantasy town of
Chewandswallow.
Session 3 Geography/English
Compass Points
Children will develop their
knowledge of compass
points and make up a fun
but informative weather
forecast.
Session 4
Geography/English
Lights, Camera, Action!
Children will close the block
by using their knowledge to
create and film an imaginary
weather forecast.
Main Outcome: Geography Other outcome: English


To create a weather forecast for the UK using a map showing the main countries
and capital cities and using weather symbols.
To perform the forecast in role.
Children will
 Locate the UK on a map.
 Find and name the countries in the UK.
 Use simple compass directions.
 Locate London and know that it is a capital city.
 Identify daily weather patterns in the UK.
 Make improvisations based on class discussions.
Children will
 Draw a fantasy map with the town of Chewandswallow.
 Make a key.
 Use geographical vocabulary.
 Describe the town of Chewandswallow.
Children will
 Name and find the four countries of the UK.
 Name capital cities in the UK.
 Use simple compass directions
 Use directional language when talking about features on a map.
 Use class discussions to develop ideas.
Children will
 Name and locate the capital cities of the UK.
 Use compass directions and directional language.
 Use an atlas to identify the UK and its countries.
 Work as a group to create an imaginary weather forecast.
 Use role-play to present the weather forecast.

You will need: Compass; Children’s maps from session 2; Art supplies – glue, paper, coloured pencils, paper and
scissors
Session 4
Provided: A blank UK map; A UK map to label
You will need: Stationery – paper, scissors, coloured pencils; Atlases
