College and Career Awareness: This course is required for all seventh grade students by the Utah State Board of Education. Career and
Technical Education Introduction offers exploration and preparation for high demand jobs and career paths that are both satisfying and
financially rewarding. Through CTE Intro, students participate in activity-centered lessons to utilize technology, develop beginning skills,
and explore careers by expanding awareness. CTE Intro provides information regarding future classes and training related to each student’s
career field of interest. Technological advances and global competition have changed the nature of work. Jobs today require increased levels
of knowledge and advanced technical skills. Learning is a lifelong process, and students need to be prepared for the future. CTE Intro creates
an awareness of the knowledge and skills students will need for ongoing success in college, career, and life. A skill learned today is a skill for
life. FULL YEAR. Eligibility: 7th grade only.
Keyboarding I: Keyboarding skills are essential life skills for today’s students. Junior high students need to type at least 35 words per
minute consistently on 3– to– 5 minute timings. If they cannot do this, they should take Keyboarding I in the 7th or 8th grade.
In the beginning semester keyboarding course, the student will master touch operation on a computer keyboard. Correct fingering by touch
and good techniques will receive primary emphasis; speed and accuracy will be given secondary emphasis. The fourth row numbers and
symbols and 10-key pad will also be taught. The student will use basic word processing functions on a variety of document types. HALF
YEAR. Eligibility: 7th and 8th grade.
Keyboarding Applications: This course is designed to teach and improve word processing software skills and increase student keyboarding
skills through drill practice and reinforcement of correct keyboarding techniques. Students will use word processing software to create,
format, and edit personal and business documents including letters and memos. HALF YEAR. Eligibility: 8th grade.
Computer Technology: Computer literacy is a foundational element of success in today’s technology-driven world. This course is intended
to help students learn concepts associated with key application software, basic computing fundamentals, and ethics and appropriate behavior
while using technology as a tool in the classroom and in life. This course is aligned with national and international standards and the Utah
Core to prepare students across multiple levels of skills. Students have the opportunity to test out of this course by successfully passing
Certiport’s IC3 GS4 certifications. THIS CLASS FULFILLS THE .5 CREDIT COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY GRADUATION REQUIREMENT.
HALF YEAR. Eligibility: 9th grade.
Exploring Computer Science: This OR Computer Technology is a required class for high school graduation. Exploring Computer
Science is designed to introduce students to the breadth of the field of computer science through an exploration of engaging and accessible
topics. Rather than focusing the entire course on learning particular software tools or programming languages, the course is designed to focus
the conceptual ideas of computing and help students understand why certain tools or languages might be utilized to solve particular problems.
The goal of Exploring Computer Science is to develop in students the computational thinking practices of algorithm development, problem
solving and programming within the context of problems that are relevant to the lives of today’s students. Students will also be introduced to
topics such as interface design, limits of computers and societal and ethical issues.
THIS CLASS FULFILLS THE .5 CREDIT COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY GRADUATION REQUIREMENT. HALF YEAR. Eligibility: 9th grade only.

PLACEMENT RECOMMENDATONS for Secondary I Honor Class
9th grade student desiring to complete calculus in high school
Teacher recommendation
Students in 7th and 8th grades may take the Honors class one year and not the other. I.e. a 7th grade student may choose to take 7th Grade
Math and then take 8th Honors Math or a 7th grade student may choose to take 7th Honors Math but not 8th Honors Math. This will NOT
affect their ability to take advanced classes in high school.
If students wish to skip a grade, students must take summer school classes offered by the district and then pass the SAGE test
corresponding with the course they take at the end of the summer. Please contact the school counselor to find out more information
about these classes.
Integrated Science 7: Physical, earth and life science content are integrated in a curriculum that will focus on "structure." Students will

"structure" as a general science concept common to all content areas. A $5.00 lab fee is required. FULL YEAR.
Integrated Sciences 7 Honors: USOE CORE (Same curriculum and Integrated Science 7. Students will develop in further detail science as
a process of obtaining knowledge and analyzing outcomes based on observable evidence, and will develop the ability to formulate
hypotheses, design and carry out strategies to test them, and evaluate results. A $5.00 lab fee is required. FULL YEAR.
Integrated Science 8: Physical, earth and life science content are integrated in a curriculum that will focus on “change.” Students will value
and use science as a process of obtaining knowledge based on observable evidence. Students will develop an understanding of “change” as a
general science concept common to all content areas. A $5.00 lab fee is required. FULL YEAR.
Integrated Sciences 8 Honors: Physical, earth and life science content are integrated in a curriculum that will focus on the theme of
“change”. Students will review the process of obtaining knowledge and analyzing outcomes based on observable evidence, and will gain
awareness of the increasingly international context of scientific activity, its impact and limitations as well as the constant evolution of
scientific knowledge and understanding. A $5.00 lab fee is required. FULL YEAR.
Earth Science 9: This class meets the general science requirements for ninth grade & counts for High School graduation. Students enroll in
this course that explores Earth, geological change, and the interaction of atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere. This course builds upon
students’ experience with integrated science in grades seven and eight and is the springboard for success in biology, chemistry, geology, and
physics. Two primary goals associated with the understanding of how systems interact are: (1) use science as a process of obtaining
knowledge based on observable evidence, and (2) students’ curiosity will be sustained as they develop the abilities associated with scientific
inquiry. A $10.00 lab fee is required. FULL YEAR.
Earth Science 9 Honors: USOE CORE (Same curriculum and Integrated Science 9. Further details in science such as inquiry and
preparation for advanced Science courses in High School. This is a course that explores Earth, geological change, and the interaction of
atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere through the lenses of the culture, communication, and connections. The longer length of this
course allows students to spend more time with labs, less set-up and clean-up time. This course builds upon students’ experience with
integrated science in grades seven and eight and is the springboard for success in biology, chemistry, geology, and physics. Two primary
goals associated with the understanding of how systems interact are: (1) use science as a process of obtaining knowledge based on observable
evidence, and (2) students’ curiosity will be sustained as they develop the abilities associated with scientific inquiry. A $10.00 lab fee is
required. FULL YEAR.
