Steward St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center Geriatric Psychiatric Program
The Geriatric Psychiatry Program inpatient Unit of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is a 16 bed unit that provides
comprehensive treatment in a specially designed setting. The program addresses the special needs of older adults
ages 55 and up who may be experiencing a range of psychiatric disorders including, but not limited to:









Anxiety
Behavioral Disturbances
Dementia with mood or behavioral complications
Depression
Psychosis
Memory impairment and/or confusion
Sleeping and eating disturbances
Withdrawal
Hearing or seeing things not present; bizarre thoughts
Our multidisciplinary team consists of specially trained professionals experienced in addressing the complex mental
health and physical needs of older adults. This includes:







Board-certified psychiatrists
Clinical social workers
Medical specialists (e.g. internal medicine, neurology, etc.)
Case Management
Nursing staff with geriatric/psychiatric/medical expertise
Occupational/Physical therapists
Nutritionists
Comprehensive Assessment and Treatment









Psychiatric evaluation
Discharge and aftercare planning
Individual and group therapy
Medical evaluation and management
Medication adjustments
Nutritional consultation
Occupational and Physical therapy
Patient and family education
Sensory based treatment to promote stress management
