Container vessels are directed to berths 1 & 2 where 3 new gantries (41 mt capacity) have been
installed

However power supply allows only one gantry to work at the time, as a result vessels have to rely
on their own gear. The gantry can offload 20-25 containers/hour, ship’s gear 10-12/hour

Conventional cargo will be offloaded at berth 3 or to any of the other berth. Average offloading
rate is 250 mt/hatch/shift. Laborers use to work on contract and stop work once the tonnage has
been reached.

The port is open 7 days a week, all year round, except on Christmas Day and Good Friday when
ships are handled only in emergency

12 berths are located on 2 quays with a total paved quay apron of 2,196 m²

Quay 2 is a dedicated Container Terminal with 3 x 45 mt Ship-to-Shore (STS) Gantry Cranes and
4 x 40 mt Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) Cranes

The Port has 5 back-port terminals which provide receipt, storage and delivery services

They are Golden Jubilee Terminal (GJT), Maersk Container Terminal (MCT), Africa Coastal
Services (ACS), Tema Bonded Terminal (TBT), Tema Container Terminal (TCT) and Meridian
Port Service.

