News of the Week
At the Parent Fundraising Group Meeting we
discussed the opening of the back gate to the
academy also known as the Tesco Gate.
Parents today at the Year 6 to Year 7 High School Transfer Meeting
Message from Mr O’Grady
Dear Parents/Carers,
A big thank you to all the parents and carers who
were able to attend the first meeting of the
Parents Fundraising Group on the 9th September
2014.
Approximately 23 parents attended. It was a very
productive meeting. Parent / Carers came up with
some really imaginative ideas to raise funds to
support children including ways in which these
funds might be spent to support learning.
Here are the initial ideas suggested by parents:
Fund Raising Ideas
Car Boot Sales
Grow and then sell
vegetables
Food stalls
Large Celebratory Event
Selling fruit
Ways to Spend the Funds
iPads
Sports Equipment
Books
Trips and visits
Guest Speakers
The questionnaire completed by parents at the
meeting will now be sent out to all parents to get
their ideas about fundraising.
The next meeting of the group to plan activities
will be Tuesday 7th October at 9am

We are pleased to announce that the gate will
be opened each day for a trial period
commencing Monday 15th September until the
half term holiday in October.
Please come along.!

* 8-40 a.m. until 8-55 a.m. each weekday
morning
* 3-05 p.m. until 3-30 p.m. each weekday
evening

Congratulations !!!
As part of our Positive Playtime Initiative we have
appointed Peer Mentors from Years 5 and 6 to
support pupils at lunchtimes.
After a rigorous interview process with our school
coaches the following children were chosen
Shinae, Heyton, Shenice, Lucy, Bonnie, Hana,
Hamid, Kadijat, Kaia.
The Peer Mentors will have the role of helping
the coaches and lunchtime staff teach new games
and assist the coaches with the demonstration of
new games and activities

The New SEND Code of Practice
Parent Representative Group
This year the government has issued new
guidance on how to support children with Special
Educational Needs. We will be holding a parents'
workshop on Wednesday, 24th September 2014
to give you more information on this and on ways
that we can work together to make sure that every
child with specific needs gets the best possible
education here at ARK Swift.
In the week commencing 15th September 2014 we
will be sending out a letter giving more
information about our how to self-nominate to
become a member of this group. We are looking
for one Parent Representative per class and hope
to meet for an hour or so on the dates and times
set out in the second part of the list below.Most of
the Parent Rep Group meetings will take place on
Thursday mornings. If we have more than one
parent nomination per class, we will rotate
membership of the group on a termly basis to
ensure all interested parents/carers have the
opportunity to represent the class group.
If you have any concerns about your children's
learning please speak to the class teacher. After
school is usually a better time than before school.
You can also arrange to speak to the Inclusion
Manager, Sarah Newlands.
Uniform
