Teresa Bell called the meeting to order 11:59 am.
Patricia Saltus made a motion to approve the minutes from the August 14, 2012 General PTA
Meeting, and Amy Wood seconded the motion to approve minutes. Voting was unanimous to
accept the minutes. The minutes were approved.
President’s Report by Teresa Bell:
Members should invite others to join.
Pick up you membership card, if you haven’t already.
YMCA waves enrollment fees if you're a PTA member.
Facebook page is up. Please like it.
Patricia Saltus is working on a school-wide recycling with Mrs. Rogers (5th grade).
PTA is donating 23 Roosevelt t-shirts to Operation School Bell (part of the Assistance League)
for Roosevelt kids who wouldn’t be able to have one otherwise. If you would like to donate to
this cause, please contact a member of the board.
Vice President’s Report by Diane Nutt:
We currently have 390 PTA members.
Treasurer’s Report by Michelle Camp:
She presented the budget for 2012-13.
Our goal for the Run is to raise $10,000 for art teacher salary.
If we have extra funds, it will go toward playground maintenance.
Budgets for the Mileage Club and National Scripps Spelling Bee Enrollment fee were added.
Motion to approve the budget was made by Michelle as the Treasurer. All voted in favor of
approving the budget.
Principal’s Report by Mrs. Tiffany Dixon:
NPS Language Arts Specialist Brooke Meiller will speak at our October meeting about Common
Core Standards and what they mean for us and our children.
Tetherball poles up!
Prairie Rose is looking into a fall event with OU’s Price College of Business in November (to do
in addition to OU’s Big Event in the spring).
Children have logon access to Safari Montage video on demand clips.
The Achieve 3000 Program is starting with 3rd grade, those in the GT program, and those in 2nd
and 3rd grade who work with Mrs. Porter this year. This is a computer game where all students
will work on the same reading passages but on their own individual reading levels.
The annual Watch DOGS pizza party will be help Tuesday, September 18th, at 6:00 PM in the
cafeteria.
The next FERPA training will take place during the Watch DOGS pizza party on Tuesday,
September 18th, at 6:00 PM in the library.
Share Your Shelf (sponsored by Arvest Bank) will take place October 22nd-26th in conjunction
with Red Ribbon Week.
Roosevelt raised $11,587.00. $4000 was raised online for Jump Rope for Heart (which was the
second highest in the state).
Committee Reports
Book Fair: during parent teacher conferences (Mr. Stanley)
Box Tops: flyers coming out. Check expiration dates! (Melissa Scaramucci)
Bylaws: There’s a new format this year. Erin Hassen is working on it.
Directory: Coming out soon as possible. We’d like to have more ads. When ready, we’ll need
help distributing them. (Cary Hans)
5th Grade Party: fundraising will take place October 6th and will be a Yard Sale from 8:00 AM12 PM. (Patricia Saltus)
Grants: Aisha is applying for a SAMs Grant and is looking at tech grants. (Aisha Ali)
Health screening: Oct 17-19 vision screening. (Angela Wright)
Holiday Helpers: One or two special things for each child will be the focus for this year for
Roosevelt families. (Libby Eshelman)
Homeroom Parents and Volunteers: Folders are delivered. Log volunteer hours spent at school.
There’s a folder that contains pages of information on each teacher’s favorite things in the
workroom by the fax machine. (Melissa Scaramucci)
Hospitality: Contact Shannon if you’re interested in helping and if you have special requests or
ideas for lunch menus. Shannon brought up the idea of receptions to be held after each school
program. (Shannon Hensel)
Mileage Club: Mr. Menzie would like to be involved this year. It takes place Mondays and
Wednesdays 2:50-3:15PM after school and during recess on Wednesdays. Kids will be
recognized in Rendezvous when cards are filled. There were 20 kids yesterday! Kids should
notify their teachers if they’re staying after for Mileage Club. (Ashley Waslo)
My School’s Cool: This program starts in October. Save receipts from the mall and turn in to
the office.
New Parent Liaison: There are around 50 new families this year. (Mitzi LaBrie)
Newsletter: Turn in by first of each month to Dana Rex. (Dana Rex)
Picture Day: Our first picture day is September 20th. Volunteers have already signed up.
Popcorn: There’s a new location for this year—in the cafeteria. They’ll be popping 30 Fridays
this year. (Patricia Saltus and Ashley Waslo)
Prairie Rose: Our goal is to have more classes and families use Prairie Rose this year.
Reading Olympics: Forms have been sent home. There will also be a book exchange in
conjunction with the
Red Ribbon Week: Theme is “Too Smart to Start.” It will be held October 22-26. They have
put in a request to Norman Regional as sponsor to get bracelets. (Angela Wright)
Reflections: There are six categories, and the deadline is November 30th. Fliers are going out
next week. Judging is in December. The theme is “The Magic of a Moment.” They will talk
about it at Rendezvous. (Manju Khana)
Restaurant Nights: Next week is at Eskimo Snow.
Rough Rider Run: It will be held October 19th. Forms accessible on the PTA website and on
Facebook. There will be a door-decorating contest for each class, and classes come up with team
chant. There will be additional awards this year: school spirit, hustle award, etc. Norman
Regional is donating water bottles. (Jamie Mincher)
The Run is our only fundraiser and funds a big project and everything in PTA’s budget for the
entire year. (Jennifer McCarty)
Rough Rider Rally: It will be held Friday, October 26th, 5:30-7:30. (Becky Humphers)
Scholar Recognition: Scholars will receive a dog tag, and parents may buy yard signs. (Sandy
Minty)
School Supplies: We are already signed up to participate in this program again in the spring.
Super Kids Day: Shannon Hensel will need a lot of help. It will be held the last week of school.
Teacher Appreciation: This committee provided dinner at Back to School Night for teachers
and staff. Lisa is working on a gift for each teacher for his or her birthday. (Lisa Dionisio)
Watch DOGS: September 18th is the pizza party 6:00-7:30 PM. Need volunteers. Eight people
volunteered to serve pizza.
Website: Send dates and forms to Yumi Davis, and she'll post them. Newsletters are posted.
