Assignment - Week 5 Student: Ekaterina Nosova EIDT – 6511 Assessments in Online Environments Walden University Instructor: Dr. Celeste Fenton On the following pages, the objectives, drafts of each assessment item, and corresponding rationale statements are presented. There is a number of assessment items that are scored according to a score rubric mentioned below. Designing Performance Assessments Objectives represent the measureable achievement a learner will be able to demonstrate as a result of this online performance assessment. The objective for this assessment includes clarifying that learners understand some key and target elements of driving. This knowledge or understanding will involve the measure of learners’ procedural knowledge, attitudes, and skills in the following areas: 1. Driving a car; 2. Perform a three point turn with 100% accuracy; 3. Illustrate proper use of turn signals that meets the legal limits; 4. Execute a parallel parking maneuver that meets the legal limits. Performance Assessment Items Objective: Driving a car Teaching defensive driving tips for driving in different weather The assessment evaluates the driver's ability to follow defensive driving procedures when faced with a vehicle spinning out of control, driving on icy road or in snow, or in other types of bad weather related incidents. Students are expected to use essential techniques that are necessary in different kinds of weather. Here is a procedural objective and a problem solving. Objective: Perform a three point turn with 100% accuracy The assessment evaluates how to properly master a three point turn, when there is no room for a U-turn. Drivers demonstrate their capability to a three point turn (procedural) without incident or making an illegal U-turn. Objective: Illustrate proper use of turn signals that meets the legal limits Demonstrate how to use vehicle turn signals properly and manual turn signals to meet legal standards for driver license Drivers can demonstrate using turn signaling while driving, and being able to hand signal in the event the vehicle signals are not working. This procedure allows drivers avoid accidents on the road. The assessment evaluates a procedural because drivers need to be able to meet certain criteria to meet legal standards. Objective: Execute a parallel parking maneuver that meets the legal limits Observing drivers maneuver parallel parking to meet legal requirements for a concrete country, state, region. Drivers demonstrate their capability for parallel parking that meets legal state requirements in order to obtain a drivers license in a concrete country, state, region. The assessment evaluates is procedural because drivers need to be able to meet certain criteria to meet legal standards. Scoring Rubric There are 10 maximum points that drivers can achieve during their driving procedural test. Points 9-10 points 8-6 points Passed/Failed Criteria Exceptional work able to control vehicle under maneuvering vehicle. Meets extreme weather conditions; all criteria to obtain drivers able to signal turns manually; license/Passed able to signal turns using vehicle turn signals and emergency flashers; parallel parking, required by the country, region, state Acceptable work, with able to control vehicle under minimum errors - Meets extreme weather conditions standard criteria to obtain with some instructor's drivers license/Passed comments; able to signal turns manually; able to signal turns using vehicle turn signals and emergency flashers; parallel parking, required by the country, region, state. Below standards, does not is not able to control vehicle meet criteria to obtain drivers under extreme weather license/Failed conditions; is not able to signal turns manually; is not able to signal turns using vehicle turn signals and emergency flashers; parallel parking, is not required by the country, region, state 5-1 points Defensive Driving Tips - Online Assessment Q 1. During heavy rain, when is there a risk of aquaplaning? A. only when driving with worn-out tires B. only when the vehicle is heavily loaded C. above all, if driving at high speed, even with good tyres. Q2. How soon should a driver prepare to signal a turn left or right when approaching a green light? A. When preparing to turn left/right at the light? B. At least 15 feet away from the light. C. When the light turns yellow? D. None of the above Q3. When parallel parking the driver should first? A. Put on turn signal B. Turn on emergency flash signal C. Make sure sufficient space is available to park car D. All of the above Q4. When performing a three point turn, the driver should? A. With no traffic behind you or coming toward you, turn to the right or left until you are perpendicular to the street. B. Put the car in reverse. Back up straight across to the other side of the street as far as possible. C. Just make a U-turn and hope for the best. D. Put the car in drive or, in manual cars, first gear. Check traffic again. Please Note: Because of the nature of this assessment and exact the test take only has one opportunity to select the correct answer. No changes will be acceptable so study questions carefully. This is a pass or fail test. If failed, the participant can re-take the assessment in 30 days. Designing Performance Assessments - Rationale The distance education was considered to be a one-to-one relationship between an instructor and a learner who are generally not in the same place at the same time (Oosterhof A., 2008, p.3). Performance tasks are hands-on activities that require students to demonstrate their ability to perform certain actions. According to Oosterhof, Conrad, & Ely (2008), performance assessment is not new to evaluation and has been around since 7000 B.C. Unlike written tests, performance assessments have always involved a direct observation of the behavior of the learner and/or product resulting from that behavior. This category of assessment covers an extremely wide range of behaviors, including designing products or experiments, gathering information, tabulating and analyzing data, interpreting results, and preparing reports or presentations. I designed basic performance assessments that could be used to assess drivers' capabilities in driving. The online quiz is pass or fail, which determines if a driver is able to perform specific defensive driving techniques (procedures) and/or maneuvers or not. This online quiz is multiple choice questions with several options, where only one correct answer is presented. In addition, the questions are designed to make the test taker think critically to determine the best possible answer in any of these given situations. Moreover, the assessment is designed this way that a test taker can get immediate feedback for the correct or incorrect answers. If learners fail the test they will have another attempt to take the test in 30 days. As Palloff and Pratt (2007) say that a numbered form of grading gives students a better understanding of their assessment score and eases their ability to self-assess. Reference 1.
