Field Trip to the High School Land Lab to observe ecosystems in person is scheduled for
Thursday, September 25th. Students will return in time for lunch. Students will want to
dress for a messy hike and a walk from East Woods to the High School. We will travel
as homerooms. **Please pack extra clothes and shoes in case it is muddy.
●
Many students have finished up their notes on the Early Civilization tribes (Maya, Inca or
Aztec). Some students were a little behind on this, we sent the notes home over the
weekend for finishing. Monday we will begin publishing in Writer’s Workshop and we
want to make sure everyone is ready.
●
Our first spelling test will be returned to the students on Monday. Students will revise
any words they missed on their test (5x) as part of their weekly homework.
● Students should be reading 20 minutes (or more) per night as part of their daily
homework. The reading can go towards the 40 Book Challenge. Many students have
already turned in their first few responses and have begun to understand the routine of
the program. Don’t be afraid to ask your child about their progress. A minimum of three
books are required to be read and responded to per quarter.
●
Attached is a very powerful document which statistically breaks down the effects of
nightly reading.
●
In math, we have been working on 2 digit X 2 digit multiplication, volume, prime
factorization, and expressions vs. equations. Please encourage your student to be
practicing basic facts or using Khan Academy to help them become more fluent and
confident. Starting next week, we will have math homework Monday through Thursday.
It will be a combination of “home connection” workbook pages and Khan Academy
assignments online.
●
The library is looking for volunteers to help the students check out books and work the
front desk. If you are interested in helping please contact Janet Daniels at
DanielsJ@hudson.edu
