Bio-Diesel Fuel
Have we ever thought of another source of energy when the petroleum is gone? A
question that addresses many meanings to our life, future, health and our economy. Many
countries have begun to investigate and search for alternative type of fuel to rely on and decrease
the huge economic investments on the petroleum. As the petroleum will be gone one day, many
companies and energy sectors around the world have realized the importance of finding
alternative source of energy. An energy that will operate our cars’ machines, trains,
manufactories and heavy construction equipment. After years of investigating and researching,
Rudolph Diesel demonstrated the first diesel engine that ran with peanut oil (“Advantages of
Biodiesel Use for Emissions Reductions and Regulatory Compliance”). An oil that is simply
extracted from an environmentally, friendly, green plant. This type of fuel is called Bio-Diesel
these days. Bio-Diesel is simply defined as, according to World Energy, ( … diesel replacement
fuel made form virgin vegetable oil such as Soybeans or Rapeseeds (“Advantages of Biodiesel
Use for Emissions Reductions and Regulatory Compliance”).
After the WW2, the United States government looked at this type of fuel very closely, in case
petroleum supplies was cut, and made further investigation to develop this energy and modify it
Almubarak3
to be one of the main sources of energy for the future generation. Later on, the United States
have considered consuming Bio-Diesel fuel since 2001, producing 9 million gallons of Biodiesel
only from Soybeans oil. Currently, the progress in consuming this fuel has significantly
increased since 2001, which in 2011, the production of Bio-Diesel has increased 100 times than
its production level in 2001 (“Biofuels Issues and Trends”). These presented data showed a
tremendous reliance on Bio-Diesel these days, and as scientists and environmentally activists
have always suggested researching and looking for alternative source of energy, Bio-Diesel will
be an outstanding source of energy that will fulfill many needs in our life, and the dream living
in an environmentally, healthy world, will soon come true. A question might captivate the
attention of the reader regarding the consequences of using this clean energy, would be “How
much reduction in emission would really occur as a result of using Bio-Diesel as a primary
source of energy instead of the conventional gasoline?” This question would actually lead to the
crucial part of this research, in whether the consumption of Bio-Diesel actually worthless or not
based on a primary research and recent journal articles. For the primary research, some of the
information presented in this piece will be derived from online survey. People who work in the
field of mechanical and chemical engineering will participate in this survey to get and accurate
information. Many of the data regarding Bio-Diesel fuel will be found with these groups of
people as a part of their major. As a result, they will be the only participant in my research
project, and they will also be my targeted audience.
To be more focused in my research, I have always considered making it more narrowed
with very specific data and information regarding this topic. Hence, I focused my research one
country which is the Unites States of America. Even though it seems a little bit narrowed, I made
it more focused by putting a limitation of a period of time, which is the effect of Bio-Diesel in
Almubarak4
the Unites States for the next three years. Finally, I came up with a solid thesis statement that
will represent my research question, which is “What is the Impact of Consuming Bio-Diesel fuel
in Decreasing the Emission in The United States for the Next 3 Years?
There are some interesting facts that led to the interest of Bio-Diesel as an alternative
source of fuel. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “Biodiesel is the first and
only alternative fuel to have a complete evaluation of emission results and potential health
effects submitted to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ("BIODIESEL EMISSIONS").
The Findings from the EPA has proved that Bio-Diesel fuel has advantages more that any type of
fuel, including the gasoline. As Bio-Diesel is the only type of fuel that passed the emission test, it
is strongly clarify that the consumption of Bio-Diesel is more environmentally friendly regarding
the reduction of emission that comes from this type of fuel. Furthermore, Bio-Diesel fuel has not
only offered an environmental benefit in decreasing the released emission, but also human
benefits in decreasing the potential diseases.
The Obama administrations have unveiled its first proposal of implementing a plan in
analyzing the direct and indirect emission released in the country. Lisa Jackson, an Obama
administrator, has pointed at the significance of using Biofuel in reduction in consumption of
fossil fuel consumption. The results obtained from this fuel will contribute in a noticeable
climate change in the U.S with this clean energy. In a conference call with reporters, Jackson
stated that "We can cut greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 20 million cars off the
road.” It is apparent from Jackson statement that with the usage of this clean energy, we will be
able to reduce the released emission of gasoline as much many as taking 20 million cars that
currently commute in roads ("United States Considers Biofuel Emissions").

All these data presented have clarified the effects of consuming Bio-Diesel as an
alternative source of fuel instead of the conventional gasoline. To more support these data, a
primary research will be included with my secondary sources. Simply by surveying people in
this field and get their own views of the benefits and comparison between different types of fuels
that might affect our environment. A slight different with the primary research would be helpful
in to support my thesis question. As a researcher, I am going to survey some energy sectors and
expert in the field of mechanical and chemical engineering to get and accurate information about
my topic. In specific, the survey question will be about the estimated released emission in the
next three years from Biodiesel fuel and gasoline. After that, I will compare these analyses with
the previous data I have collected from other journal articles. That way I will come up with a
very strong proof to support my research conclusion and clarify the exact results I will come up
with at the ends of my research. There are many predicted clues about how this research might
end up with regarding the results. However, all data presented should be strongly proofed by
many credible sources, whether they are primary or secondary sources.
