Orientation Activity & Plagiarism Tutorial

PART I: Introduction
 Go http://www.fgc.edu then click “FGC Library”.
 Choose “Library Orientation” under “I Need to Find…” to read basic library information.
 Read carefully. This is the Library Orientation introduction and link to this worksheet. Complete
Parts II, III and IV.
PART II: Library Catalog
 Go back to the Library’s homepage and select “Library Catalog” (located in center of page.)
 Type the word “dune” in the Search bar and click “Search”.
 There will be a list of items, and in the left column a way to refine your results. These results
include many different types of material we have in the library.
 Click "Book" to narrow your results or “More Options” to find “Book” and find the book titled
“Dune.”

PART III: Databases
There’s a lot of information online that is accessible all the time from any computer, even if you can’t
find a book. The FGC Library has access to databases, academic journals, newspapers, and much more.
On the upper right corner of the webpage, click Log In. You will be asked for a Borrower ID and Pin. This
is your FGC Student ID and MyFGC password. If you have any trouble logging in, please call the library at
386-754-4401 for assistance. Once you login, you can search anywhere without logging in again, unless
you close the browser window.
 Type in search term “cell phones classroom” in search box. Click “Search”.
 Find the newspaper article "Using Cell Phones in the Classroom". You can narrow the search
by format on the left bar.

 Click “Read Article”

Close the article. Click Databases A-Z at the top of the library results page.
 Select Ebook Collection. Search for “games education”.
5) How many ebooks are about this topic?
 View the eBook Full Text Ethics and Game Design: Teaching Values Through Play
 Find the Chapter titled “Family Fun and Fostering values.
6) What is the page #?
Select Academic Search Complete. Make sure Full Text box is checked. Search for Civil War Florida.
Find the journal article titled “Give Them Their Due.”
7) What year were African Americans able to enlist in Union regional regiments?

Choose next database by closing the tab or window to return to the Database list.
 Select Opposing Viewpoints. Click “Browse Issues” along the top of the page. Choose
“Vegetarianism.” View all “Viewpoints.”
