Reading Homework
The students have begun reading
homework this month. This homework
is assigned on the Reading Street
(Pearson) website. Please listen to
your child read the assigned reading.
Studies have shown that children who
read at home develop a life-long love
of reading and learning. Reading at
home is statistically linked to
successful reading at school. Thank
you for helping your child to become a
successful reader!
L.A/Spelling Assessments
Every Friday (or the last day of the
week) we will have a phonics,
comprehension and spelling
assessment. The assessments will
reflect the letters/sounds as well as
reading strategies we are using in our
classroom. A spelling list will come
home on yellow paper each week.
Please work on these words with your
child so they are prepared and
successful for our Friday
assessments. Thank you for your
support at home!
Unit
The students will
learn about Halloween,
scarecrows and we will
begin our Journey
Through Pennsylvania unit. We will
locate Pennsylvania on a U.S. map;
locate Harrisburg and Hershey,
identify the founder of our stateWilliam Penn, and compare and
contrast traits of the Hershey, Amish
and Mennonite communities. We will
learn about the lives of Milton
Hershey, Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross and
Mister Rogers. We will discuss
Thanksgiving by
comparing and
contrasting
Thanksgiving
celebrations of the past and present.
Box Tops
We will be collecting Box Tops in our
classroom this year. This is great
additional revenue for our school! Please
send any box tops you’ve collected into
school with your child.
Homework
Please return the homework in your child’s
folder daily. Be sure to practice your sight
words EVERY night!

Please return your reading calendar on
on or before Oct. 31st. Thank you!
Conference Schedule
Our class conference schedule will be
coming home soon. Please check your
conference time and contact me if you
need any changes made.
Important Note
Many children are coming to school
unable to tie their shoes or zip their
coats. This is causing us to lose valuable
instruction time. If you could work with
your child to become proficient at tying
shoes and zipping coats that would be
very helpful! Thank you!
Classroom Items Needed
