Congratulations GSW and the National Honor Society!!! We collected 37 pints of blood last night and 8 people were deferred. Our goal was 26!!! We beat out goal twice in a row!! The next Blood drive is for the business club on April 19th. Please come out and support them. Remember if you donate 5 times during high school you are eligible for a

Red cord for graduation!!

Are you a responsible, trustworthy student looking for a job? If so, stop by Rub Ford in Gardner to fill out an application. They are looking for someone to do office work from 3 - 6 pm each day after school.

JUNIORS = Please turn in your candy money to Ms. Spiezio. Also, every Junior needs to pickup 1 more box of candy to sell. We still have 50 boxes left to sell for the Junior Class!

Freshman class: there is a sign-up sheet outside of Miss D's classroom for pep assembly games.

If you are interested, please come sign-up. If you have any questions about the games, you can ask me or your class officers

On Friday Jan 22 nd

, Tri-Point is scheduled to play GSW at Cullom. The Tri-Point NHS is having a spaghetti supper that night before the game from 4 to 6:30 pm. Cost will be $8 for spaghetti, green beans, garlic bread, ice cream, and drink. Basketball parents = in case you want to get a bite to eat before the game. Thanks!

Homecoming week is next week and the following are the dress days for the week. Our theme this year is Superheros!

Monday: PJ day or dress like a movie character day

Tuesday: A new one: Generation day - each class will dress up as a stage of life: o Freshmen: babies o Sophomores: Adolescents (grade school to jr high age) o Juniors: Adulthood (middle aged) o Seniors: Senior Citizens o Faculty and Staff: Teenagers

Wednesday: Superhero day (it does not have to one of the superheros from the walls)

Thursday: Class Color Day: o Freshmen: Red o Sophomores: Blue o Juniors: Yellow o Seniors: Black o Faculty: Orange

Friday: Spirit day

The Pep Assembly will be Friday, Jan. 29th at 2:00 PM = more details on that later.

Graduation Raffle = Drawing will be Feb 19 th

at last boys home game.

Tickets can be purchased in the office during school hours or contact Corey Brannock.

Students - If you need community service hours or just want to volunteer the Gardner and Mazon

Area Masons could use your help. Friday, January 29 th

they will host a Chili Dinner at the

Gardner American Legion Hall from 4 - 8 pm. The money raised at this event is used for the

Mason's Scholarship. See Ms. Kilmer if you would like to pick up a flyer.

Seniors - If you have received a scholarship offer that you plan to accept please bring a copy of the award letter to the guidance office so we can recognize your accomplishment at Academic

Awards Night and graduation. Thank you!

The Homecoming Dance will be Saturday, January 30 from 7-10 PM. Date Request forms will be due back to the office by January 26 th

!! Tickets for the dance will be on sale during lunch hours the week of January 25 th

A Financial Aid Presentation will be held on Wednesday, January 27 th

at 6 pm in the cafeteria.

A representative from Joliet Junior College will be here to give the presentation. All college bound Juniors and Seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend. There will be big changes to the Financial Aid process later this year.

A very nice women's size medium warm winter coat is available in the Guidance Office. If you are in need, please see Ms. Kilmer.

The Student Council still has shirts for sale. They are $15 and for every shirt sold we will donate

$10 to cancer research. See Mrs. A if you would like one.

CLUBS:

There will be Student Council meeting this Friday, Jan.22 at 7:30 a.m. in Mrs. Arrambide's room.

Delta Kappa Gamma - $1000 scholarship awarded to a female senior pursuing a degree in education. For more information, see the guidance office. Application/essay deadline is February 1, 2016. (Cindy Christensen)

Local Masonic Lodge - $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior planning to attend a 4-year college - 2-year junior college - or an accredited trade school or vocational training program.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Up to $25,000/year to high school seniors planning to enroll full time at a 4-year college or university focusing on engineering, technology or design, with an interest in the automotive industry. For more information go to http://www.buickachievers.com

Seniors - If you are interested in joining IBEW Local #176, Electrician's, stop by the guidance office to pick up a flyer listing the qualifications required and the application process.

Gardner Lions Club - $500 scholarship awarded to TWO graduating seniors enrolled in a 2 year,

4 year college, trade or vocational studies program. Deadline is April 11, 2016. For application and more information see Guidance.

Fred Drendel Memorial Scholarship - $1000 scholarship awarded to a senior pursuing a career in agriculture or from an agriculture family. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Application deadline is April 15, 2016. Please see guidance for more information.

Exelon is offering a $1000.00 scholarship to a deserving senior who is planning on entering into a career of science or technology. This is one of our local scholarships and there will be one winner from our school.

Any seniors planning to become a school nurse, school psychologist, instructional media specialist, or social worker, there is a scholarship opportunity. Please see guidance office for more information.

Students if you are interested in taking the ASVAB test at GSW, please sign up in the guidance office. Students planning to join the military will need to take this test sometime before they enlist. It is also a great way for any student unsure about his/her future career path to explore areas that may be a good fit for his/her skill set. We need to gauge the number of students interested before the test can be set up. Please sign up ASAP if you are interested.

Seniors - If you plan to enter the workforce after high school and would like help with your letter of application and resume stop by the guidance office to pick up a packet.

If you have volunteered your time to improve our community and would like to be recognized with the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award you can complete an application to be considered for this award. More information is available at http://spirit.prudential.com

at GSW.
