The Ashland community is located at the junction of Illinois Route 123 and
125, approximately 20 miles from Springfield and 20 miles from
Jacksonville.
The Chandlerville community is located on Route 78. There are 19 miles
between the communities using the highway, or 17 miles through country
blacktops.

RECREATION:
City parks with tennis courts and ball diamonds. Both communities have
annual events that draw area people for food, fun and festivities. The
Illinois Department of Conservation purchased 30,000 acres in the
A-C District called the Jim Edgar Panther Creek Fish and Wildlife Area.

Between the two communities, there are 9 Protestant and 1 Catholic
Churches.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
The Board of Education of A-C Central Community School District #262, Ashland, Illinois is seeking a
Superintendent of Schools. The Superintendent selected will succeed Rebecca Canty, who has served the
District, as Superintendent for the past 6 years and will be retiring. The new Superintendent will be expected
to assume the duties on July 1, 2013.
SALARY AND CONTRACT
The salary will be regionally competitive. Final salary will be negotiated with the candidates based on
their qualifications, professional preparation, experience in educational administration and record of
success. It is expected that the initial contract will be a performance-based multi-year contract
authorized by the State Statutes. The new Superintendent is expected to live in the District.

The Board of Education of A-C Central Community School District #262 is committed to an educational
program of excellence. Candidates should be able to continue and reinforce that excellence to the
community, the students and the faculty. Candidates should be a proven, experienced, successful school
administrator and must have a devotion to the development of quality education and a concern for the
welfare and motivation of every child. Prior experience as a School Superintendent is preferred.

For a small school with a high school enrollment of 140 students, there is a good
comprehensive curriculum that has Block 8 scheduling, core classes in Advanced
Mathematics, Science, Language, Music, Art, Literature and Social Studies.
The A-C Central High School has been recognized for 4 out of 6 years for academic
excellence.
Grades 6-12 one- to -one computer initiative.
A wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities are available for all students. Middle
School and High School Sports are co-oped with PORTA/Petersburg.
The District provides food service for grades K-12, with the new dietary initiatives
implemented.

are transported 794 miles daily on 7 regular and special routes. Transportation
