No sweets for pets
Keep all candy—especially chocolate and anything containing the sweetener xylitol—away from
pets. Make sure used wrappers are discarded properly and your pet isn’t able to dig them out of
the trash.
Keep eyes on the ground
Be cautious and alert when walking your pet outside. Frequently scan the ground for dropped
candy that your pet could consume.
Fight the temptation to feed table scraps
Fatty holiday meats can cause a number of gastrointestinal problems while bones can cause
obstructions or choking.
Diminish decoration dangers
Place Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations out of the reach of pets. Accidental ingestion
could cause choking, poisoning or result in the need for surgery.
Wrangle escape artists
Whether you’re having a gathering at your home or welcoming trick-or-treaters at the door,
designate a secure, indoor spot for your pet. Increased traffic at your door provides opportunities
for your pet to slip out.
Play dress-up safely
If you dress your pet in a costume, make sure the outfit is roomy, reflective and fire retardant.
Costuming that’s tied too tightly could cut off circulation or choke your pet.
