Principal’s Report
During the next two weeks we will be farewelling our
Year 6 students at a number of special occasions. I
would like to say a very special thank you to Year 6
for their many contributions to our school. Under the
leadership of their teachers they have all made great
gains in many different areas of school life. On behalf
of all the staff and students I would like to wish them
well as they prepare for the next exciting stage in
their lives.

School Evaluations 2011
As indicated in the last newsletter the staff are
working on our school’s initiatives and achievements
throughout the 2011 school year, as well as plans for
further improvement in 2012 and beyond. Today
each family will receive a short survey to complete.
We would appreciate it if as many parents as
possible could complete the surveys. The information
will assist us with writing the Annual School Report
and the School Plan.

GARDENING
The McCAIN School Vege Patch Program
Ryde School has registered to participate in the McCAIN
School Vege Patch Program. By collecting packets of McCAIN
frozen vegetables and McCAIN Purely Potato range we can
collect points. These points can be redeemed for veggie patch
equipment. Our students would benefit greatly from seeing
our vege garden grow and having the appropriate tools we
need to care for our garden. Please send in any empty McCAIN
packets to Mrs Tall. Students will kept informed of our point
tally.

P&C
P&C End of Year Disco
On Thursday 24th November over 200 students attended
the P&C End of Year Disco. With DJ Sammy rocking the
latest beats and plenty of energetic dancing it was a
wonderful night of colour, festivity and excitement. The
disco lights and smoke machine had an intriguing and
stimulating effect on the hall and many children were
mesmerised by the sights and sounds! A lot of children
took the opportunity to enjoy a hot dog or a sweet treat
while others were happy with their free drink & chips
included in their entry ticket. Glow-sticks and glowbracelets were a popular addition to the evening and spot
prizes were given out to the best dressed, best hair and
best moves. The P&C would like to extend their thanks to
all of the staff who attended, the parents that helped with
preparation, and those who worked on the night as well
as the families who donated baked goods to sell. We also
acknowledge Gossip Cafe, Top Ryde Bakers House &
Ivins Butchery for their contribution. An event such as this
could not happen without this support. Over $900 profit
was raised and this will go towards upgrading fixed play
equipment.

with your children
• Click Clack Front ‘n’
Back when in the car.
• Use the footpath-side
door when getting in and
out of a car.
• Hold a grown-up’s hand
when on the footpath, in a
car park or crossing the
road.

Stop! Look! Listen!

Always supervise your children in the traffic environment.
Wishing all our families safe travels this holiday season
As the Christmas and New Year holiday season approaches, thousands of
families are set to hit the roads for a holiday adventure. A concern for everyone
across the country is always that of road safety over this time. There are more
people using our roads at this time meaning there is a higher risk for accident,
injury or even death. Motorists are urged to be extra cautious especially at night
and when passing through residential areas, due to the unpredictable actions of
pedestrians.
Driving tips that will help make sure
your journey is a safe one






Don’t set off on a long trip at the end of a day’s work.
Sleep well before travelling. Don’t drive at times you would normally be asleep.
Take a 15 minute break outside your car every two hours. There are almost 100
community driver reviver sites that operate throughout NSW during holiday
periods.
Eat well balanced meals at regular times. You need the energy for brain activity
and concentration while driving.
Do not use your mobile phone while driving. Turn off your mobile phone or keep
it on silent.
Pack some quiet activities for the children in the car such as portable DVD
players, books, small computer games, portable music player with headphones.
For more information check the Transport Roads and Maritime Services
website http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au

When getting off a bus,
wait until the bus has
gone before using a safe
place to cross the road.

Always wear a helmet
when riding a bike and
don’t ride on busy roads.
“Road crashes
account for 58% of
all accidental
deaths among
children aged 5-14
years.”
Double demerit points apply
over the holiday period.
