Transmission Dynamics Modelling (Vicura)

advertisement
Vicura is a company of engineers, creating entire solutions for drivelines adding value to our
customer’s products. Through skill, innovation and vast OEM experience, we understand and regard
the whole process – from concept to industrialization. Since all good things come in threes, our
technology range includes mechanical and electric drive systems along with control systems. With our
responsibility, excellence, passion and overall perspective, we excel at capturing motion.
Transmission Dynamics Modeling
Background
One important NVH (Noise, Vibration & harshness) characteristic of a geared system is how much
tonal noise and vibrations it generates. This noise is generated in the gear contacts from the
transmission error (TE) and vibrations are transmitted via shafts and housings to surrounding
structures and the air. One usually recognizes the noise from whining F1-cars or reversing cars.
Another critical characteristic in applications with high operational speeds in combination with heavy
rotating components is its response to unbalance loads
In order to evaluate the vibrations produced for a transmission design one needs to calculate the
dynamic system response for the excitation at hand. The response can be noise, housing surface
vibrations or torsional vibrations. To obtain an accurate result in reasonable time each step in the
process as well as the process itself must be created with care. Some steps in this modeling chain,
from source to receiver, are already available at Vicura. But there is still need to improve and extend
the modeling to a complete process.
Thesis Goal
The goal with the thesis is to build a dynamic FE-model of a transmission and to implement
techniques for gear whine and rotordynamic analysis using Abaqus. The results will be compared to
both measurement results and the results from similar tools.
The student will
- Do survey of the solution techniques and corresponding problem and solution categories.
- Create a suitable dynamic transmission model in Abaqus.
- Implement the analysis procedures for gear whine and rotordynamic analysis.
- Process results and make comparisons to measured results and results from other tools.
- Understand key parameters for the results.
Suitable Background
M.Sc. student in engineering within applied mechanics or physics area.
Knowledge in dynamics and FEM will be beneficial.
