Leadership Cadre Update for
Standards of Practices (SOP)
Meeting: May 9th, 2014
Who met? Following is a list of the Leadership Cadre members in attendance:
 TVIs: Carrie Cimarrusti-Erikson, Heather Jacobsma, Katie Monter and Shelly Howsare
 OMS: Jim Judd and Jonathan Karli
 Consultants: Chris Short, Margie Ortgiesen, Rosa Mauer, Sara Larkin, Cindy WhiteBotello, and Susan Brennan
 Leadership Team: Gwen Woodward and Pam Rubel
Listed below is a summary of what work cadre members completed since the February
meeting:
 The Leadership Cadre members piloted the use of the Literacy and Math SOP as a selfassessment on March 7th for literacy and March 14th for Math via ICN.
 The design and delivery of professional development (PD) for SOP next school year was
discussed at the April and May Consultants’ Meetings as well as beginning plans for Fall
Vision Conference.
 Staff completed the Literacy and Math Standards of Practice prior to their April
Communication Conference (CC). During the CC, staff identified 2-3 teacher areas of
strength and 2-3 teacher areas of need after completing the SOP rubric and IPDP. Staff
also selected areas of content for PD based on areas of need, caseload and interests.
o A summary of areas of strength, areas of need, and preferred PD was compiled.
What were the outcomes of the meeting?
 Next year the PD will be offered for one hour of credit. Meeting times will include:
o Fall Vision Conference
o During the year, there will be 6 hours additional face to face/electronic
meetings.
o Peer collaboration of 4 hours to include observations with pre &/or post
conferences and review/reflection.
 The major focus of the meeting was to determine the areas of content for PD for next
school year. To do this the cadre divided into two groups:
o The TVIs and consultants met with Gwen.
o The OMS/COMS met with Pam.
o Both groups used the summary of areas of strength, areas of need, and
preferred PD that had been compiled after CC to determine the most prevalent
PD needs for next year.
 The cadre developed questions to survey staff on both the process used during CC and
the content of the Literacy and Math SOP Self-Assessment. Staff will complete the
survey on Survey Monkey before the end of the school year. The feedback from the


survey will be used to improve the process for CC next April as well as refine the Literacy
and Math SOP.
The purpose of the Leadership Cadre for the 2014-2015 school year will be:
o To continue to refine the Literacy and Math SOP and facilitate the selection of PD
for the upcoming year.
o To develop SOP for the ECC area of orientation and mobility.
The following plan was developed regarding the rotation of Leadership Cadre members:
o There will be TVI and OMS representation from both sides of the state.
 Jonathan will shift to TVI representation next year.
 Kaylyn Wright will join the Leadership Cadre to represent OMS/COMS.
o Beginning fall 2015-16, replace half the TVI and OMS on the Leadership Cadre.
o Moving forward, Leadership Cadre members would make a two year
commitment.
Next steps:
 A survey will be created on Survey Monkey and distributed to staff to seek input on both
the process used during CC and the content of the Literacy and Math SOP SelfAssessment before the end of the 2014 school year. The feedback from the survey will
be used to improve the process for CC next April as well as refine the Literacy and Math
SOP. The revised Literacy and Math SOP will be distributed at the 2014 Fall Vision
Conference.
 Staff will be asked before the end of the 2014 school year to work on PD Design Teams
to plan and prepare for the 2014-2015 school year.
 PD Design Teams will plan PD that will begin at Fall Vision Conference on October 9-10th,
2014.
 The next Leadership Cadre meeting will be determined as needed.
