About Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School (BSNBCS)
Mission Statement: At the Bedford-Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School, families, educators
and community members will join together to create a supportive and rigorous academic environment.
Through the pursuit of 21st century learning, project based & service learning, and traditional coursework
strategies, students will be prepared to succeed in academically competitive schools as well as become
responsible citizens of the global community.
Our History and Our Future: BSNBCS opened its doors in September 2010 to serve families in
Community School District 16, which is located in the neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
We currently serve grades K-7 (our final grade with be 8th grade, in 201516). Service Learning is a central tool that we use to anchor academic learning in real-world problem
solving and empowerment for our students. We use Response to Intervention to identify and respond to
our students’ academic, emotional and behavioral needs. As a professional community, we value hard
work, collaboration, and professional development.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

















Collaborate with general education colleagues to ensure instruction is differentiated and meeting
common core standards.
Create and implement lesson plans based on student needs and BSNBCS' mission.
Work closely with peers and administration to develop multifaceted curriculum that integrates
multiple subjects and approaches to meet the individual needs of students.
Take an entrepreneurial approach to your curriculum, teaching methods, and optional duties.
Lead classroom differentiation through curricular modifications, instructional techniques, parallel
instruction, small group pullouts and integrated classroom strategies.
Assess and develop goals for the IEP process.
Implement IEP goals and strategies into an integrated classrooms.
Maintain an awareness of school's strategic initiatives and incorporate them into your work.
Regularly and accurately report student progress and maintain accurate and up to date records
related to student achievement, performance, and IEP goals.
Review data daily and amend your approach accordingly.
Take an active role in your professional development by identifying and creating opportunities to
expand your skills to meet the demands of individual student needs.
Communicate frequently with students, students' families, colleagues and other school
personnel.
Serve as the IEP case manager for an assigned group of students.
Attend IEP meetings, parent conferences, and child study team meetings.
Take an active role in school community outreach.
Strong understanding and ability to implement BSNBCS mission and vision.
Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or his designee.
Qualifications:

Required: New York State Teaching Certification in Special Education 5 - 9, 1-6, or K-12 and
minimum 2 years classroom experience
Preferred: Measurable/significant track record of success as a NYC District or Charter School
Teacher

