OUTDOOR WOOD BURNING APPLIANCES
When using an Outdoor Wood Burning Appliance please respect the following rules:
1) Only one (1) Wood Burning Appliance may be used on the property.
2) They must not be used on wood decks or combustible platforms.
3) The appliances must have screens in place and the door or cover must be closed when
in use.
4) Only dry seasoned firewood shall be used in these units, as it burns with little or no smoke.
5) There shall be NO use of treated wood, painted wood, leaves, grass or other vegetation,
plastic, oil, rubber or any food materials.
6) The Outdoor Wood Burning Appliance must be located:
a) Three (3) meters (10 feet) from all adjacent structures or buildings.
b) Six (6) meters
(20 feet) from a neighbour's residence.
c) Three (3) meters (10 feet) from all hedges trees, overhead electrical wires, any combustible
materials or roadways.
7) No flammable liquids are to be used to ignite materials to be burned.
8) The Wood Burning Appliance must be supervised by an adult when being used and until the
fire is completely extinguished.
9) No burning shall take place when Department of Natural Resources has a ban or restriction on

10) Wood Burning Appliances must be ULC/CSA approved and the manufactures instructions must
be followed..

Advise neighbors before burning.

Use of these appliances is at your own risk.
NOTE:
When a VALID complaint is received regarding an Outdoor Wood Burning Appliance that
is in use, the Bathurst Fire Department reserves the right to order the immediate
extinguishment of the fire.
