Daily Schedule (Subject to change)
Note: The following is the schedule for Civil War Newspaper Project. This schedule will keep you to date on where you should be at in your project, deadlines, and due
dates. It will also give you a heads up on what the schedule will be like in class so you can plan accordingly. You are allowed to get ahead, but please let me know if you are.

November 30 –Begin explaining project. Give examples of stories and how to write a topic into an article/story.

December 1st – Current Event’s Quiz, finish discussion on how to write an article/story.

December 2nd -- Finish explaining project, distribute groups. Begin voting on editor, assigning topics, coming up with name of newspaper.
Discuss research options. Handout research sheets. Begin research.
*Need to have some research complete in your research notecards/notebook by December 3rd
 December 3rd – Check research. Research Day. Books, computers and your textbook will be available for research, so we will have to research the
old fashion (and sometimes overlooked) way. Some library books will be available in the classroom. Your textbook is a valuable resource.
 December 4th – #WECAREDAY. Two Hour Late schedule, shortened classes. Research Day. Books and computers. Library books will be available
in the classroom. Your textbook is a valuable resource.
 December 7th – Research Day. Books and computers. Library books will be available in the classroom. Your textbook is a valuable resource.
 December 8th – Research Day. Mr. Peterson will instruct again on how to write a story versus writing a biography/encyclopedia article. Research Day.
Books and computers. Library books will be available. Your textbook is a valuable resource. Rubrics will be handed out.

 December 9th - Writing Day – You should be writing your rough drafts today.

*Rough Drafts Due Tuesday during Language Arts Class– If you get done with your rough draft, begin writing another topic of choice
 December 10th - Writing Day – You should be writing your rough drafts today.
*Rough Drafts Due Monday during Language Arts Class– If you get done with your rough draft, begin writing another topic of choice
 December 11th - Writing Day – You should be writing your rough drafts today.
*Rough Drafts Due Monday during Language Arts Class– If you get done with your rough draft, begin writing another topic of choice
*Print out rough draft by end of class so you are ready for Monday.
 December 14th – Rough Drafts Due/Peer Editing Day. Students will bring their papers to their Language Arts class for peer reviewing. Each writer
must make 2 copies of their rough draft to be edited by a student in their Language Arts class. While in our class, you will do a self-edit sheet with the
other. When you are done, you will work on your bibliography. If your paper is edited (because you had Language Arts prior to History) you can begin
making corrections when you are done with your self-edit and bibliography.
 December 15th – Make corrections and print 1 copy. You will self-edit again, and then you will hand one copy to the editor. Editors you must begin
editing papers. Finish editing papers by December 16th If you cannot make that deadline, you need to tell me (Mr. Peterson) ASAP. Writers, when
you are done, find a picture that correctly defines your story. Also finish your bibliography which will be due Thursday Dec. 17th.
 December 16th – Revised drafts (from peer review day) due. If you have not already completed the tasks from December 15th, refer to that day.
When your editor finishes your paper, make more corrections as needed. If you are waiting, you need to finalize your picture. When done with that, talk
to your editor to find out what he/she needs in terms of advertisements.


December 17th – Everybody – Bibliographies Due. Editors - need to have all revisions done by today. Writers - Format Day. Writers,
once your editor has given you your paper back, make corrections as needed. Final articles are due next class. Mr. Peterson will instruct you on how
to format your papers. If you are done, you can look for pictures for your article, and also help with advertisements/classifieds etc. Whatever the editor
needs from you, you do.

 December 18th – Final Articles Due – Review and print finalized articles, and choose front page headline– search for pictures, help with the layout of
the newspaper, create filler articles, and advertisements.

 December 21st – Work on Newspapers. Newspapers due Next class.
 December 22nd – Newspapers Due – Self Evaluations, Group Evaluations
