Course 1 Title: "Aligning your Instruments Skills and Preserving your Profession Career"
Objectives: *Identification of risks associated with dental hygiene positioning, instrument selection and
repetitive procedures
* Create a check-off list of improvements made in clinical practice that reduce risks affiliated with muscularskeletal disorders and chronic diseases
* Review of up-to-date diagnostic and debridement instruments
* Discuss appropriate selection of instruments based on patient case profile and disease status
* Differentiate between instruments which require sharpening and those which are marketed as nonsharpening or special blade technology
Course 2 Title: "The Mystique in Changing Patient's Behavior: The Fifty Shades of Grey!"
Course Description: The concept of “motivational interviewing” is now recognized in oral healthcare as
becoming the best practice in “guiding” our patients in making positive changes during their lifespan.
Eliminate the “control and domineering style” from our current approach in patient care and take small steps in
becoming a lifestyle coach. Our patients will only make positive changes if they see their value in day-to-day
activities.
Lil will walk the audience through the key principles that underscore the process of using motivational
interviewing techniques in our workplace. The video clips and interactive discussion brings about a productive
environment for learning this concept while having fun during the seminar.
Objectives: * Comparing previous and current techniques in patient interaction that reinforce better results in
behavior changes
* Discuss the 4 guiding principles of motivational interviewing
* Reinforce the key communication skills and their application in motivational interviewing
* Define ambivalence and discuss how to guide patients through this obstacle in changing their behaviors
* Observe the video demonstrations of dental hygiene and patient interactions – and provide suggestions/input
in improving the tactics in motivational interviewing
