New Student Experience
The New Student Experience combines courses and programs designed to help students
transition well to the rigorous academic environment at Baylor. These experiences strengthen
a student’s mind, body, and soul for an academic career at Baylor, and more importantly, their
life at home or abroad after graduation as a worldwide leader.
The mission of Baylor University is to educate men and women for worldwide leadership and
service by integrating academic excellence and Christian commitment within a caring
community.
The mission of Baylor’s School of Engineering and Computer Science is to provide a superior
education through instruction, scholarship and service that prepares graduates for
professional practice and responsible leadership with a Christian worldview.

Academic Integrity
University policies regarding academic honesty will be strictly enforced. Academic dishonesty
includes, but is not limited to (a) cheating, (b) fabrications and falsifications, (c) multiple
submissions, (d) plagiarism, and (e) complicity in academic dishonest. Dishonest acts may result
in failure of the course and referral to the Baylor University Honor Council. Baylor University
students, staff, and faculty shall act in academic matters with the utmost honest and integrity.
Course Policies
Attendance: CSI/BINF 1095 is a Pass/Fail course that meets once a week for the first six
weeks of classes. Attendance at all sessions is the expectation. Students are responsible
for communicating absences before a missed class period.
Assignments/Participation: As a part of this course, students will be prompted to
participate in discussion, activities, and assignments.
Grading: Most assignments will be completed in class and reviewed by the instructor.
To receive a “pass” for CSI/BINF 1095, students can only miss one class period and one
assignment.
Example – If a student misses a class period, he/she will have a missed class and
missed assignment (the student was not present with his/her assignment). This
student cannot miss another class and has to fully complete all remaining
assignments for the duration of the course in order to pass the course.
Student Expectations
 I expect that you will arrive to class on time and with all materials necessary to work.
 I expect that you will be alert and engage in class lecture and discussion.
 I expect that you will be open to ideas and enthusiastic in your class participation. I
value your questions and observations.
 I expect that you will not indulge in private conversations during class time.
 I expect that you will not do outside reading, writing, or homework during my class. It is
unacceptable to do work for another class during our meeting.
 I expect that you will not text or email during class. Your phones are a distraction and
should be put away during our meeting.
 I expect that if you eat or drink during class you will clean up after yourself and not
distract others.
 I expect you to be open minded and accepting of others regardless of race, gender,
religion, background, life experience, etc.
Faculty Expectations
 You can expect me to do my utmost to clarify course content, explain ideas, and offer
examples.
 You can expect me to be very clear about assignment instructions and course
requirements.
 You can expect me to be easy to reach via e-mail, work phone, posted office hours, and
appointments (please allow 24 hours for a timely response).




You can expect me to be on time and prepared for our meeting together.
You can expect me to care sincerely about your learning and your individual
development both in and outside the classroom.
You can expect me to like you even when you aren’t at your best.
You can expect me to encourage you, demand your best, and laugh a lot!
