Honors Science Cell Model Ideas
Note: You will need to research the shape and function of specialized cell parts.
You will also need to use the Cells & Heredity text/internet to research special
processes like phagocytosis, endocytosis, & exocytosis.
Single Celled Protists
Euglena - Contains some parts from animal cells and some from plant cells.
Has chloroplasts (for photosynthesis) but no cell wall. Has a flagellum (tail),
basal bodies, an eyespot, pellicle and microtubules. Can undergo
phagocytosis and "eat" small food particles. You will want to show it
happening in your model.
Paramecium - Includes animal cell parts + cilia, large nucleus, small nucleus,
contractile vacuole, food vacuoles.
Amoeba - Include animal cell parts + pseudopods ("fake feet"), food
vacuole, contractile vacuole, food particles, and endocytosis.
Specialized Animal Cells
Neuron - Include animal cell parts + cell body, axon, myelin sheath, axon
terminal, dendrites.
Muscle fiber (cell) - Include animal cell parts + multiple nuclei, several
mitochondria, sarcoplasm (vs. cytoplasm), sarcoplasmic reticulum (vs.
endoplasmic reticulum), myofibrils, myofilaments (optional).
White blood cell - Include animal cell parts + pseudopods ("fake feet"),
show the ingestion of a microbe through phagocytosis, several lysosomes,
digestive enzymes, phagosome (type of vesicle), indigestible material,
exocytosis.
