Bishop’s message to local communities as diocese launches new website
This week the Diocese of Bath and Wells launched its new website with a personal message from
the Bishop of Bath and Wells.
The Rt Revd Peter Hancock, who didn’t go to church until he was a teenager, invites the
900,000-plus people of Somerset to find out more about the variety of projects their local
churches are involved in as they work to make life better in their communities.
“As I’ve been travelling around the diocese, it’s been thrilling to see the ways in which our
churches are supporting and encouraging our communities…It takes me right back to when I was
a teenager and went along to my local church for the very first time. I received such a welcome
and there was such joy, love and hospitality that it changed my life forever,” says Bishop Peter.
“Our churches are spread right across Somerset. If you want to come along and see what we’re
doing, we’d love to welcome you and to share our love of Christ,” he adds.
The new website at www.bathandwells.org.uk seeks to offer something for everyone; whether
involved in church or not.
The bishop’s message features on the homepage along with a scrolling banner describing the
type of work of the Church of England diocese and its 494 parishes are involved in everyday.
The practical support for our communities, like organising foodbanks, helping people secure
better financial futures and organising social clubs for older people might come as a surprise to
many visitors.
The new site offers a handy search tool to find a church where you are. There is content for those
looking for information on christenings, marriages and funerals and plenty to help people explore
their questions of faith and what it means to be a Christian.
You can read also about what your two bishops are up to and if you have an event to promote –
why not add it to the events calendar and spread the word right across the county?
An additional feature is the responsive design of the site; it works just as well on tablets and
mobile phones as it does on PCs and laptops.
