GENERIC ADVERT TEXT
Ref:
HR/Comms
Last updated: 07/09/2013
<Title information (eg: Job role, location, salary range, type of position, reference) will be automatically pulled
into the advert from e-Recruit.>
<Paragraph 1 should grab the reader.>
For example:



We are looking for a Research Fellow to use classical computer simulations and free energy
calculations to develop and test methods for locating water molecules and molecular fragments in
protein binding sites.
We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic professionals to the role of Head of Faculty Operations for
two faculties at the University of Southampton. You will provide proactive leadership and coordination of support for the dean and the faculty executive group.
We are looking to employ an operational administrative and support assistant to provide high-quality
and efficient administrative support to one of the University of Southampton’s enterprise units.
<Paragraph 2 is about the University.>
Be a part of the University of Southampton, an institution in the top one per cent of world universities* and
one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities. We have an international reputation for research,
teaching and enterprise activities.
* QS World University Rankings 2012-13
<Paragraph 3 is a brief introduction to the faculty or department where the successful candidate will work>
For example:


Southampton is one of the best places in the UK for chemistry teaching and research. Chemistry at
Southampton has a national and international reputation for excellence. We provide unique services
such as the UK's National X-ray Crystallography Service, which supports and develops world-leading
research in chemistry, biochemistry and the physical sciences.
The Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering boasts world-leading facilities, teaching and
research in Electronics and Computer Science, Optoelectronics, and Physics and Astronomy. It has
1,300 undergraduate, 300 taught and 500 research postgraduate students, as well as around 150
academic and 200 research staff members.
<Paragraph 4 is the main body of the advert. It should be no more than three paragraphs and can include
brief information on the role and essential (and desirable) skills the successful candidate should have. Body
copy should be no more than 200 words (paras 4 +5).>
For example:

Fragment based drug discovery is becoming increasingly widely used in the pharmaceutical industry
as an approach for lead identification. In this project, computational tools based on classical free
energy calculations will be developed to support the experimental work by predicting the location

and relative binding affinities of small molecules in protein binding sites. This project is funded by
AstraZeneca and you will therefore be expected to work closely with industrial scientists as part of
this collaboration.
Experience in the use of classical computer simulations on biological systems is essential, and ideally
you will have experience in free energy method development and the associated software
implementation. You will join a well-established research group in the area of computational
chemistry with a keen focus on the development of methods for classical computer simulations and
their application to biomolecular problems, with a particular emphasis on pharmaceutically relevant
problems. You will also be a member of the Computational Systems Chemistry section.
Application procedure
This post is suitable for <chemists, physicists or biochemists with a strong background in computational
chemistry and biochemistry simulations> <and is available now>.
