Presenter: Dr. Scott Benjamin:
Dr. Benjamin received his undergraduate training from the Michigan Technological University and
his physical therapy BScPT from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His finished his graduate work
at the University of Maryland (DScPT) and obtained his manual therapy certification from IMPACT
with Jim Meadows. He has co-authored the Cram Session in Functional Anatomy; a Handbook for
Students and Clinicians. He has authored papers on TDA, lateral epicondylitis, modalities,
prolotherapy, isokinetic testing and aquatic therapy. Scott is the inventor of the Multifidus Muscle
Integrator (MMI) and has taught continuing education courses nationally and internationally with his
areas of interests being in biomechanics of the spine, sacroiliac joint, manual therapy and
rehabilitation. He has been practicing since 1989.
Presenter: Dr. Ann Auburn
Dr. Ann Auburn completed her residency in Family Practice at E.W. Sparrow Hospital in Lansing,
Michigan in 1995, going on to complete a second residency in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
(OMM) at MSU, then staying on faculty for 3 years as an Assistant Professor at the MSU College of
Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Auburn currently maintains her Adjunct Clinical Faculty position through
MSUCOM, teaching students and residents in her office. Dr. Auburn maintains board certification in
both Integrative and Holistic Medicine and OMM. Dr. Auburn has enjoyed two tenures as the
President of the Kent County Osteopathic Association as well as an appointment as a Professional
Member on the Michigan Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery and served as the Chairman
of that board from 2007 to 2008.
Presenter: Alice Covey, RD:
Alice Covey RD is registered dietitian and a certified intuitive eating counselor in practice for over ten
years. She is passionate about nutrition, health and well-being. When working with clients, Alice
uses intuitive eating and mindful eating principles. She offers practical guidance to help her clients
increase their health and well-being and improve their relationship with their bodies and food. Alice
received her degree in dietetics in 2003 from Montana State University and completed her dietetic
internship in 2005 through Utah State University.
Presenter: Dr. Marco Adame Jr.
Marco received his K.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Southern California in 2002. In 2006,
he received his Doctor in physical therapy degree from the University of Southern California's
Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy Program. In 2009, he returned to the University of Southern
California to complete a year-long orthopaedic residency program where he assisted in teaching
anatomy lab, orthopaedic clinical management, modalities and radiology. He has competed
coursework in spinal manipulation under Doctors Peter Gibbon's and Philip Tehan. He became a
board certified orthopaedic clinical specialist in 2011. During his free time, Marco enjoys almost
anything he can do in the water whether it be surfing, scuba diving or swimming. He has a passion
for soccer and is involved in coaching youth soccer.
Presenter: Christie Newsom:
Christie received her undergraduate degree in Cardiac Rehab from Central Michigan University and
received herPHT Christie Newsome Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Pacific University in 2002.
She relocated to Maui after graduating and has owned Kihei Physical Therapy since 2005. Christie
has completed many continuing education courses throughout her career, including: Maitland I-III for
spinal conditions, Muscle Energy for sacro-iliac dysfunction, Active Isolated Stretching, Diane Lee for
thoracic spine and Gary Gray for functional therapeutic exercise and training. She has completed
Long Nerve Entrapment certification through Active Release Technique (ART). Christie is pursuing
Lower Extremity certification at the upcoming Ironman Triathlon competition in Kona, Hawaii. She
has taken courses through APTA and Herman & Wallace for pelvic floor and women's health
conditions as well as Pre/Post Partum Injuries certification through Herman & Wallace. Christie is
also a certified STOTT Pilates Mat and Reformer Instructor, Johnny G SPIN Instructor and
BeachBody PiYO Certified Instructor. She loves to integrate fitness into her wellness plan and has
completed Cycle to the Sun, TriLanai and several olympic distance triathlons.
Presenter: Erika Fabian, PT
Erika has been a physical therapist for 21 years. She completed her initial training in Budapest,
Hungary and her manual therapy training in Canada where she obtained an Advanced level
Manipulative manual therapist level. She also earned a fellowship from the Canadian Academy of
Manipulative Therapy. She is currently finishing her Doctorate of Science Degree in manual therapy
(Clinical PhD degree) and has worked in both private and hospital settings. She has practiced over
the last 8 years at the Pukalani Physical therapy clinic and now owns her own practice.
Presenter: Dr. Angela Cates
Dr. Perrozzi-Cates received her undergraduate degree in psychology & biology from western
Washington University in 2001. She then went on to study physical therapy at the MGH Institute of
Health Professions where she received her doctor of physical therapy in 2005. She has continued to
take manual therapy courses focusing on the spine, shoulder, knee, foot & ankle throughout her
career. She received her orthopedic certified specialist certificate in 2012. Dr. Perrozzi-Cates is
currently the chair of the continuing education committee for the Hawaii chapter of the APTA as well
as the clinic coordinator of continuing education at Wilcox hospital where she currently practices.
She is also a partner in Island Hoppers Teaching, LLC. In her free time she enjoys traveling and
experiencing the beautiful outdoors of Kauai with her family and friends.
