INTRODUCTION
Welcome!
Thank you for your interest in the St. Joseph High School Tennis Program! We are looking forward to an
exciting and productive season and hope that you will be a part of it! Having had extensive experience in the
development of highly competitive tennis players, I am eager to make a contribution to the improvement and
success of our St. Joseph players.
Our schedule this year will be tougher as we prepare for a very challenging season in the White Division
of the Greater Middlesex County (GMC) conference during the 2016 season. We must begin to prepare
ourselves now if we are to be competitive. Your efforts will determine our success! To reach our goals it is
important that you begin doing the following in preparation for the season:
 Play tennis regularly (2-3 times per week at least)
 Enter United States Tennis Association tournaments to gain playing experience
 Seek out additional lessons with a Pro or in a clinic
 Begin your own conditioning routine and attend the pre-season conditioning sessions
Please fill out the Player Information Sheet and bring it with you to the first mandatory team meeting.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I am looking forward to working with you and will do
my best to help you improve your game and enjoy the many benefits of playing tennis for St. Joseph!
Thank you,
Bob Bynum, Head Tennis Coach

TENNIS BAG CHECK LIST
It starts with…a tennis racket bag!
Players do not have to have EVERY item but should have as many as possible!
__rackets (2 or more)
___water jugs/water bottles
___flip-flops
__strings
___first aid kit
___plastic bags (wet clothes)
__extra clothes
___grips/over-wrap
___business cards (make you own!)
__towels
___jump rope
___cell phone & charger
___hats
___headphones
___sun screen
___wrist bands
___pen/pencil
___food/snacks
___note pad
____personal hygiene items
___USTA tournament schedule
___clippers (for strings)
____medications, inhalers, etc.
___Name tag on your bag
___hair ties
____contact lenses & wash
___shoe laces
 Know your string tension and what kind of string you use.
 Know if your rackets are strung on an electric or manual stringing machine (it impacts on the string tension
because on electric machines the tension is tighter)
 Empty your bag periodically of dirty clothes, empty water bottles, food, old grips, overwrap, etc.
 Always have enough in your bag to play 2 matches (because you will be winning!)
 Prepare and bring your bag the same way for matches AND practices
 If a water jug is unavailable use MULTIPLE water/Gatorade bottles
 Attach identification to your bag because many players use similar bags
Team members will dress and conduct themselves in a manner appropriate for high-level
Varsity tennis players. If you want to be a player, look like a player!
